I am new to acne.org. I never wouldve thought I would need to join, but here I am trying to get some help and advice from women that have been through this. At 15 years old, I finished yet another round of antibiotics and the Dr had no other choice but to prescribe Accutane. For 7 years I was acne free. Beautiful skin! I had my first baby November of 2008. I had absolutely no acne while I was pregnant or after. In January of 2009 I had the Mirena IUD placed. Then, thats where it all goes down hill. I started breaking out in June, July, and August. I went to the dermatologist and had the IUD removed. I am now on ortho tri cyclen lo, and minocycline. Its my second month of ortho tri cyclen lo, and 2nd day of minocycline. I am also using Acanya and benzoyl body wash. Please tell me this will get better. I am trying to be patient. But I am extremely down. I fixate on this all day long. It obviously has to be hormonal. Am I doing the right things here? I beg of someone to help me, or give me advice, anything. Its ruining my life. I no longer work out, I barely want to go to work, and dont want to see anyone anymore. I just want my life back. Anything would be so greatly appreciated.

JJ5858 i feel for you! acne is the worst especially when you've been clear for so long! the antibiotics and BCP's should work nicely but often things get a little worse before they get better. Has your dr persrcribed you a topical like differin or retin a? if you tolerated accutane well that could be another option too but hopefully your hormones will re adjust now that yuo no longer have the IUD. You could try omega 3 suppliments as they are good for reducing inflammation, and some people find staying away from dairy helps as dairy products contain hormones. For a face wash neo strata makes really good products but remember to choose one regimen and not overload your skin with prodcuts as that will just make to worse...the treatment review section of this website is great for researching different products. in the meantime get a good foundation, try and be patient and surround yourself with people who love and support you no matter what you look like, keep your head up! you'll get through this.

Thank you for your support. I am glad that things will look up for me with using the ortho tri cyclen, and mino. I do use acanya gel for my face. It seems to be working. My back and my chest have little red dots all over it. I am trying so hard to be patient. I am just really trying to focus on the important things in life. Has anyone else had this issue or can offer some words of encouragement. I have been on ortho tri cyclen for 2 months and mino 1 week, at 100mg a day.

If it was the IUD causing your acne, then things should get better now that it's gone...

The birth control pills should help regulate your hormones without promoting any new acne formation, while your topical treatments should help with the acne that's still brewing as a result of the IUD. The oral antibiotic is anti-inflammatory, and should also help reduce the formation of acne.

Good luck, it usually takes a few months for your body to get back on track, but things should certainly get better for you.

This is actually happening to me as well. I actually was acne free all my life then at 37 and 4 months ago wham the worst chin acne ever. No drs can tell you why, they can just try and treat you. It is a step by step process which I'm starting to figure out and unfortunatley nothing is instananeous. I too have regressed and have passed up several things because you just feel ugly and don't want people to see you in this state. I too have had a hard time adjusting and am trying to get past the look of things eveyday. It is a struggle, but I have to remind myself that I have a husband who loves me for who I am and 3 beautiful children who see past the acne and only see me. I have alot of support which is what you need. You DO NOT need the strangers who look at you who don't know you, who you might think are judging you. They do not know your struggles. You are not alone in this acne battle. Live your life the best you can for now, and hopefully for both of us we will find an end to this unfortunate struggle. Take Care!!
