Hi biggrin.gif

I'm new here but I've been putting up many posts around. I love this website.

I've recently started to adjust my lifestyle and have created the following rules.

1) No eating past 9pm. (occasional snacking like fruits ok...)
2) No plucking/squeezing/excessively touching pimples (tempting but don't!)
3) No drinking (although I doubt I can keep that up!) If anything, I'll stick to wine
4) No smoking (This I can probably manage, unless I'm already drunk)
5) Only washing with water in the morning and at night washing with an organic cleanser called purely
6) Eat lots of vegis and fruits. I already love healthy food anyway so this is keeping up the norm. No more occasional post partying fries and chickens.
7) Exercise... Hmm I wonder how this will work as I'm quite lazy.
8) Not much hard core partying.
9) Wear less makeup (stick to only mineral powder and some concealer)
10) Go to bed before 12

BE HAPPY.

It's extremely difficult to keep up everything but I will do my best to stick to the routine.
If anyone finds anything wrong with my plan please let me know. I'd love to get some feedback.

Right now for my acne I just wash, then towel pat dry, jojoba+tea tree oil on cotton pad then swipe my face with it, put cortisone cream on the big red bumps and on small ones just few drops of tea tree oil. In the morning, it's the same except I put on another layer of moisturizer. I need a new one so if anyone has recommendations please let me know:)

Interesting to compare your idea of "healthy" with that of the
acne-free Trobriand Islanders. biggrin.gif

1) No eating past 9pm. (occasional snacking like fruits ok...)
They don't really care about that.
2) No plucking/squeezing/excessively touching pimples (tempting but don't!)
They have zero acne, so not an issue.
3) No drinking (although I doubt I can keep that up!) If anything, I'll stick to wine
identical -- they don't really have access to alcohol.
4) No smoking (This I can probably manage, unless I'm already drunk)
identical again
5) Only washing with water in the morning and at night washing with an organic cleanser called purely
pretty much no cleaning products in the Islands! homemade soap, maybe
6) Eat lots of vegis and fruits. I already love healthy food anyway so this is keeping up the norm. No more occasional post partying fries and chickens.
You'll be eating way more fruits than they do, and therefore less vegies. Also, the fruits you'll be eating will be crammed with fructose, unlike the much less sweet fruits the Islanders have limited access to. Many people switching to a "healthy" diet are actually switching to a "high-fructose" diet, when you analyze the percentage of their intake that is high-fructose fruits (apples, pears, mangoes, bananas, etc.). In the Islands, their meats tend to be fish.
7) Exercise... Hmm I wonder how this will work as I'm quite lazy.
No aerobics for Trobrianders, just the exercise required to live. That exercise almost always puts their eyeballs outdoors in bright light.
8) Not much hard core partying.
The Trobrianders like to party, but that doesn't mean drugs/alcohol or staying up til 3am (since the sun comes up early no matter what)
9) Wear less makeup (stick to only mineral powder and some concealer)
not a lot of makeup for the Trobrianders
10) Go to bed before 12
Big difference. To stay up long past sunset requires a lot of work (fuel for fire, etc.). Your idea of healthy is probably going to include much less sleep than the Islanders get, and going to bed at much less regular times. (Irregular bedtimes help mess up the normal nightly melatonin cycle -- like perpetual jet lag.) You probably also sleep with much more light pollution than they do, since they have no electricity.

Big differences not mentioned in your list:

a) The Islanders live in bright outdoor light all day, every day. You probably live/work indoors in dim light, wear sunglasses, travel in covered vehicles, and generally behave as though contact with natural light would burn your eyeballs out. biggrin.gif Their outdoor light exposure to the eyes suppresses daytime melatonin, which reduces carb malabsorption and amplifies the nocturnal melatonin surge.

b) The Islanders use no caffeine or other drugs that interfere with melatonin. It's hard to sleep 9-10 hours per day when you're slamming down caffeine throughout much of the day.

Modern ideas of what "healthy" is have generally not proven to be acne cures. The Trobrianders idea of "healthy" appears to result in 0 acne lesions, in adults, menstruating women, teenagers -- 0 acne for everybody when they examined hundreds of Islanders.

Wow that's certainly something I've never known before! Trobriander...from Papua New Guinea?? Where did you learn that from? I just looked it up on google : Trobriand and Acne and I saw an article on it. Very interesting. I wish I could live there, because that would make things less complicated and I would never be tempted to drink or put on make up. I miss being out in the sun a lot. I grew up in tropical countries so I've had plenty of sunshine growing up but now I'm more or less inside a lot. It's a shame really because I truly miss being out in the sun.
I think I've done pretty well today because I went out with my friends but I didn't drink and although it is 2:30 am at the moment I will do my best to go to sleep right after I finish writing (I have insomnia so it's pretty hard to fall asleep!)
Anyway, thanks for your interesting input!
