I am going to link these two together because of what i was diagnosed with today, following my Radioactive scan results.
My scan results came back showing that my thyroid had a very low radioactive iodine uptake (RAIU). This usually occurs from either eating lots of iodine (seafood) a day prior or having a recent CT scan before the test making the thryoid scan invalid. (Low RAIU).
Or, in my case of having thyroiditis. I was told by my endo that any treatment that i had taken for my acne could have caused this, it is rare he said but def a possibility. So i got to thinking that the only prescription med i had taken for a long period of time (around 6 months) was minocycline.
So i got home and did some research and did find that minocycline can cause abnormal thyroid after long periods of use, again it states its rare, but rare can happen.
Thyroiditis starts off as hyperthyroidism which i was orginally diagnosed with for 1-3months. Then it will go into hypothyrodism for 1-3months and then eventually level out back to normal thyroid fucntion. I will have my blood drawn again in a month to see if my levels are starting to go back down toward the hypo end. Hopefully it is.
So i thought i would post this here to give everyone a heads up if you were planning on taking mino or have been on it a while.
