I am seeing a endocrinologist thursday about my hyperthyroidism i was diagnosed with from blood work drawn last week. I plan on asking him if hyper and acne can be related and to see if further tests can be done hormone wise to see if that is the problem with my acne.

Again i have repeated acne on 2 general areas of my chin every week, and it has been that way for over a year now. Since i have heard over and over that this is more than likely hormonal acne and since endocrinologist's are specialists in hormonal activiity within the body, maybe i can finally get an answer.

Has anyone else been cured from their endocrinologist or had really good success from there visit or prescribed medication? I am really hoping to get to the bottom of the cause of this acne once and for all and praying that this endo can really provide that.

I see an endocrinologist for my hypothyroidism (I have hashimoto thyroiditis)... I take 75 mcg of synthroid daily. Getting my thyroid levels fixed has helped me, I'm not as tired or cold as I used to be and I'm not nearly as sick. The endocrine system is so intricate... and it's different for everyone, so good luck.

Did you have acne at all during your treatment and if so how bad was it and did it get you clear for the most part?

i've been thinking of going to an endocrinologist or another specialist since regular doctors/dermotologists haven't helped me. i actually thought hypothyroidism might be the cause of my health, had them test me for it and did several blood tests but nothing came back.

I will update this tomorrow on how my visit was with him, hopefully it turns out good. My friends wife was treated by him when she had hypothyroidism the opposite of what i was diagnosed with and she said that he was really good and knowledgeable. Hopefully he has some insight as to the cause of my acne as well. eusa_pray.gif Well i will keep ya posted;)

Well had my appt today with my endo and he drew more blood today and told me when he felt my throat that my thyroid did seem a little larger than normal. I dont feel any diff but im not the specialist and ive never really felt it before.

I asked him about the acne correlation and he said that is very rare and probably not why and said to talk to a dermatologist. ARGH!!!! What he is setting me up to do next week is a thryoid I23 scan. Which is apparently taking a radiotacive iodine pill, and then going back 4 hours after that and they read your thyroid readings, then you go back 24 hours after that and have another reading taken. So we will see how that goes, then i will visit him again after the results are sent it.

My other lab came in to base today and my nurse called me and let me know there were a couple of elevated readings out of range on my thryoid which does represent hyperthyroidism, so for now it does look like i do have it for sure. Maybe all this thyroid imbalance, since it is related to hormones in your body, is causing my reoccuring acne.

I am just ready to slow it down so i can start gaining weight easier and hopefully clear up my acne too. If it doesnt but i am gaining weight back i will be happy, better one than nothing right? I just look to sick and skinny right now, plus acne and red marks, ugh! Complete mess!!!!!

Anyway i will keep you posted next week on whats happening next;)

Well got a call from my doctors nurse with the blood results drawn from yesterday. Here is what my readings were:

TSH - 0.03 Normal Range - 0.34 - 5.6
T3 - 5.74 Normal Range - 2.5 - 3.9
T4 - 2.15 Normal Range - 0.58 - 1.64

This was the 3rd blood test done. My TSH on first blood test was a .04 so it got just a tad worse. All 3 blood results have indicated hyperthyroidism, but they want to wait till the results from the I23 scan sometime next week and another visit with him before meds are prescribed.

Frustrating cause of the weight loss and not being able to gain anything. I am still hoping that once on the meds and balancing of my thryoid that it will help my acne, if it doesnt help the acne then going to have to try something else besides diet. As long as i can start gaining again i will be more happy.

Ok its been a while since my last update but here is what has happned so far.

I had a ultrasound done on my thryoid and the results were that i do have a nodule on my thyroid. Not sure how big it is or what but it has to be pretty small because there is no buldging in my neck nor can i feel anything.

I just recently finished my 2 day I-1 2 3 scan, which is where you ingest a radioactive pill and they scan and take pictures of how your thyroid reacts to the iodine. In my case how overactive it is. This was finished yesterday and my visit with my endo with all the results is on the 20th of this month. That is when i will finally get meds hopefully for it once he sees the results from the scan that day.

Well i guess i will update on the 20th and see how that goes!

Cool. Ive been looking at TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to cure my hyperthyroidism... a few pills that Im taking now and have been & I think that Im starting to see & feel results with them, its early yet but I decided to try naturally. (Isnt the first time that I spent massive amounts of money on pills, these are actually fairly priced surprisingly)

Basically what they believe is that its an imbalance of yin (of the yin/yang connection) which is causing that. They had a bunch of the symptoms of "yin imbalance" that I suffer from so I decided why not give it a shot. Im glad that you've been able to identify your issue and are getting the meds you need for it, that will be my next route but unfortunately until school starts up in January I dont even have any means to get health insurance so I cant afford to be dishing out all those bills without any sort of coverage plus who knows, maybe I will cure it naturally

I go for another blood test in a month and another follow up and will update then;)
