Is it weird that I am super excited that you added pictures! I have like 3 or 4 logs on here that I read religiously and yours is one of them so pictures make me happy, haha! It looks like things are going well and starting to dry up! Hope it continues to get better!

Ps. I just order Everyday Minerals also a few days ago! Let me know if you like it!

Hello rede4bed! It's great to hear that your skin is making noticeable progress by Month 1. That's really fast! Thanks a bunch for posting pictures. I look forward to seeing more as your course continues. You're going to look awesome!

----Day 38----

Welp, Day 38 is in the record books as soon as I have dinner. Last week I went to my OB-GYN for an exam and to get my hormone levels checked. I want to see if my hormones are out of wack and if that is what caused my horrid breakout. I received a voicemail on Friday saying that my results were in and that my doctor wants me to make a follow up appointment to discuss them. eusa_think.gif Sounds like the results are going to be, "Yes, your hormones are jacked." I go in on the 1st to find out.

Accutane-wise, things are going well. No new painful cysts. I have only been getting non cystic acne if any and they have cleared up fairly quick. My right side of my jaw still has the cystic mountain range that doesn't want to completely die. Soon, I will have my victory!

In makeup news, I received my samples but I'm such a tard with applying it eusa_wall.gif . I got powder all over the counter, was confused on application and when I did apply the makeup, it looked awful. So I washed it off and faced the world the way I have been for the past 4 months.

Side Effect Report:
Dry lips
Dry bloody boogers
Dry skin
Rash on hand coming back after stopping cortisteroid creme
Achy joints, particularly my ankles in the morning

Indygal, ld70, GeorgesSister - Thanks for your continued support! It's great to have awesome people along on the journey!

JulyBaby86 - Thanks and I'm flattered that I'm one of the people you follow here. Let me know how the EM goes wink.gif

----Day 43-----

I'm almost a month and a half in my treatment. C'mon month 2!! Acne wise, things are going well. My skin slowly continues to improve. The cysts on my neck are almost all flattened red marks. I have a few small ones on my forehead, but they are small and non cystic. My cheeks are just red marks. My jaw line is still broken out but improving and almost all flat.

One thing I do have that is a minor annoyance is the Tane burn (the red face that looks like sunburn but isn't). Another minor annoyance is the crustiness up in my nose. I blow my nose and it won't loosen up, so as gross as it sounds, I stick my finger up there. I feel so juvenile but it's irritating having a nose full of dried out boogers. My third and final annoyance is the rash on the tops of my hands. I used cortisteroid creme for my hands and when the rash stopped, I had to stop the creme. As soon as I stopped, the rash returned but with this creme, I have to wait at least a week to resume using it. So my hands got the rash back with full vengeance. I started using the creme two days ago and once again, the rash is halfway gone.

Thursday I find out if my acne was caused by hormones or not.

Side effects are still the same as last time. Nothing new to report. Yesterday and especially today, my stomach has been really acidic and sore. I don't think it's the tane but rather indigestion and the fact it's my time of the month.

I hope all is well with everyone here! Till next time!

Hey R4B! Glad to hear things continue to go well with clearing up/flattening out! Had to laugh at the boogers comment....but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do LOL. Have you tried putting Vaseline up your nose? Yeah, it's gross, but I've been doing it since day one and haven't had any issues with nosebleeds, bloody boogs or anything yet. After I wash my face and moisturize at night I just put some Vaseline on a q-tip and rub it around in my nostrils. Seems to do the trick! And I'm now on my second week of increased dose to 80mg, thought it might make things way more dry, but so far so good.
I'll be curious to hear how your appt goes about your hormone levels. I had blood tests too checking for hormone levels, PCOS, and thyroid, etc. I was almost hoping there was some type of issue there since then I could at least treat it, but for me, all was normal. It's so frustrating not knowing what causes things to go so crazy with the skin!!

Heya there smile.gif
i've been reading your progress and everything is looking hunky dorey biggrin.gif
unfortunately i too have been on a course of accutane before for 6 months on i think 2 tablets a day.

everything was awesome and worked out fine by the 3rd month, clearist skin ever. the other three months were more of a safety precaution lol. unfortunately i was unlucky enough to have to go back onto a second course the following winter because it came back but this time just 3 months on 3 tablets a day. anyway, finished that course around march-ish 2009, had the clearist summer all the way up until end of this august, and now lol im back onto another course again!

so i found basically on my experience - 2 tabelts a day clear skin faster but doesnt ensure that acne does not return. i think by the end of the 2nd month it should be all groovy but if not, most likely the third. i think its around 30% of people have to take a second course. and the 30% of the 30% have to take a third course. etc. so dont worry yourself lol im just a bit unlucky.

and 3 tablets a day, you experience more side effects, and clears skin by the 3rd month for sure.

advice is - dont take shit from no one. those kids that make comments.

smash their faces.

one day they'll grow up into teens and experience hell just like us lol.

and also, just for comfort - i can absolutely assure you, your skin is going to look amazing when you come off the course. 134% sure of it wink.gif something to look forward to i guess biggrin.gif

try and find some vitamin E cream, or Bio Oil or some shit like that. cause accutane or Roaccutane, slows down the healing process of scars i find. and these are awesome to use to clear those marks. Facial masks with blueberry extract too.

Oh I totally pick my nose all the time now. It just feels so good to get all the "crusty" stuff out, like you said. At least I don't eat my boogers like that kid in 5th grade did. Anyway, let's just make it a goal to break the habit once we're off this Accutane stuff.

So glad to hear that your skin is showing signs of improvement already. Let us know what the doctor says about your hormone levels. I'm interested to hear if something chemical happened that caused your massive breakout a while back.

Keep it up!

Hello there! I've also been getting eczema type rashes on my hands since I've been on Accutane. I've found that just regular moisturiser seems to help, just after a shower when I moisturise the rest of my body. My hands are ultra sensitive, and burn in dishwater etc, never did before. It's great to hear that you're noticing improvements already!! I hope that you have good news from your doctor about the hormones. Keep us posted, and good luck!

----Day 55----

Hey fellow Taners,

Sorry I've been idle lately - I've been out there trying to enjoy the world =) I'll update more often!

I got my hormone test results last week and for Testosterone (which causes cystic breakouts in women) the range for "normal" is 20-76. I'm at the high end of the scale at 72. My doctor thinks that is the cause and gave me birth control to adjust it. I'll be able to start it next month. I have a printout of the results to give to my derm when I see him on the 22nd.

My face is about the same as last time that I posted. I started wearing Everyday Minerals and while it doesn't cover everything, it does wonders and has brought new confidence in me. I get alot of people commenting on my skin and how much it's improved and I have to remind them that I have a little makeup on. They still insist even without the makeup, it is looking much better.

I have a couple new ones on my chest, neck and shoulder, but eh, I'm not too worried.

Side Effects:
Dry Lips
Dry Hands (trying to control the rash with lotion - thanks Wide Eyed!)
Achy joints
Tane burn

2 months almost done! eusa_dance.gif

Thanks to everyone for the support and comments!! I appreciate all of you who have taken the time to read my posts!! I'll stop by your blogs when I get back from work!

Hey R4B, hope the BCP helps with the hormonal issue. That should help keep things at bay once you come off accutane too I would think. That's great you are getting comments on your improving skin (with or without makeup smile.gif ). And month 3 is when a lot of people really start seeing consistent improvement....at least that's what I'm hoping for LOL.
For the "tane burn", I don't know what kind of moisturizer you are using, but I've been singing the CeraVe cream praises all over the boards wub.gif ....I use it morning and night and I have really no redness issues, even though my skin is pretty dry.
Hope month 3 brings more good things for you!

----Day 57-----

It's not 2 months, but I have some pics I took yesterday at work. Granted, the camera hates my face and seems to make it look worse...and I have a little makeup on, but here you go!

Indygal - I use the CeraVe moisturizer lotion for my face and the creme for my body. I'm scared to use the creme on my face in case it breaks me out. I see my derm next week and I'll ask his opinion as well as show him my hormone results. I hope the birth control works and I don't have to go through this ever again! eusa_pray.gif

Wide_eyed- Hey, thanks for the advice! I started being more vigilant with moisturizing after shower and washing my hands. No problems with the rash now. Thanks!! biggrin.gif

Looking great hun! biggrin.gif

I read one of your other posts that said that you like to swim. Have you been since you've been on Accutane? I'm aiming to go Mon, Wednes & Fridays, and so far so good. But tonight after I got out my face was burrrrrrning, even with moisturiser. tongue.gif Once I showered off the chlorine water it was fine. I wear a swimming cap, so I'm not too concerned with drying my hair out either. Glad to hear that the moisturiser helped with the eczema smile.gif Mine comes and goes, because I get pretty lazy with the body moisturising, but it gives temporary relief. My thoughts are that I'm only experiencing it because of Accutane, so it's nothing to stress about. Keep us posted.

Don't feel bad about not updating as often because personally I'm glad you are out there confident and enjoying life! I hope the birth control does help and things keep getting better!

Almost forget about the Everyday minerals! I had some trouble applying it at first, but I do like it, it just doesn't give me the coverage I need right now. I'm hoping to be able to use it once my skin clears up a little bit more. I noticed you said it looked awful when you first tried it, have you applied it again since then?

----Day 60 (pics)-----

Here is where I stand as of today. I look like I have some kind of, "Durrrr" look on my face in the left and right shots. Ah well, I don't look like that all the time!

Tomorrow I go see my derm and hopefully get my next month's supply:

JulyBaby86 - Yes, I have been using it. I use Mint to reduce some hyperpigmentation and even out my skin tone, then apply Golden Fair and then Light. While it doesn't cover stuff to where it isn't noticeable, it does help much.

wide_eyed - I haven't been swimming since I started Accutane.. at least not underwater. The weather is turning a bit cooler now so I won't be swimming as much until Spring. I thought I was the only one who is lazy with moisturizing..lol

George'sSister - Thank you. It feels good to have a little confidence back =) You're looking fabulous!

itsmallycat - When is your start date? Best wishes to you!

Just dryness and achy joints but neither are bad enough to hinder me.
