I'm not Mr. Bones, but I believe that's Ian Curtis' tombstone (Joy Division).  Love Will Tear Us Apart was one of their songs (great song, check it out).  He committed suicide...I think he was in his early 20's (way too young and talented to lose).

Other people's acne and scars don't bother me whatsoever...but I always take sidelong glances at them while I think they're not looking, not because I find them bothersome, but because I want to "gauge" how people might see me!  Especially people that have similar acne as mine - then I really pay close attention (without blantantly staring), so I can get a little better idea of how other people might see my acne and scars.  Then I get really depressed afterwards.  *sigh*

I know, me too.

When I see somebody with acne scars I relate to them. I feel proud for them that they are out and about and not letting the scars stop there life. When I see people on tv shows or movies with scars I get inspired big time. One of my favorite actors is roddy piper because not only has he made some classic movies like they live, but he inspires me big time, so does bill murry. They are strong individuals. Same with musical hero's of mine, they inspire me with there music but also if they have scars. It makes me feel not alone with this and that you can make it to the top still with this if you fight hard enough. I dont have the strength yet, but hoping with there inspiration and time I earn the strength.

I agree with you bornunder,

Besides the everyday people who have a lot of strength despite scarring and go out in the mix of everday life, there are tons of actors I have noticed with very visible scarring that have not let it effect their lives and ambitions.

Like you, my personal favorite is Bill Murray. Maybe his scarring has given him the great snese of humor he has, and the deep humanity I sense in him.

Here is a short list of many actors with acne scarring, ranging from fairly significant to not too bad. None of these individuals has let the scarring stop them:
Ray Liotta, Edward James Olmos, Tommy Lee Jones, James Woods, Brad Pitt,
( Nicolas Cage, Keeanu Reeves , Mel Gibson, all have pockmark scars along their jawlines).
James

Brian Adams I think has/had them too (rolling type) scars. Also, Mike Myers, he had alot of them, but they've seem to be corrected. I remember watching him in an interview (MTV I think?) about 10 years ago, and he said since childhood he's always been "depressed" or "bothered" about his acne scars. At that time, I could see them. But I think he's managed to have them corrected as far as I can tell.

Also, I think Ray Liota had his scars corrected. I was watching him on Conan Obrien the other day and his scars were barely noticable. Before, in his movies, they were very noticable. Also, Olmos's scars look like they have gotten improved.

What's even more distressing is that noticable acne scars (not microscopic) are so damn rare. I mean, sometimes I prob. go by a month or so before seeing someone with acne scars, not even severe, but just normal acne scars. This board really makes it look like there are many, but there aren't. It seems like more people have cancer or other disease than acne scars. Wish I had cancer over these freakin scars.

well....scars are perfectly natural things and shouldn't be a big deal at all...BUT you never see scars on "beautiful" people...I mean magazine covers are airbrushed to where nobody even has pores! I notice other people's scars because of my own, I think...really, other people's flaws don't bother me....my own scars bother me greatly however and I tend to keep my hair long so I can find defects on the sides of my face. I just think everybody else must be staring.

I agree... I can totally find a girl attractive regardless of acne. I wonder if we feel this way because we don't have perfect skin??
I'd like to know how people who have never had acne feel about this.

this is a really interesting thread... and as a fellow one of you I see it in the same way!! I am currently a patient of dr chu at hammersmith hospital and am undergoing n-lit and treatment with isotrexin gel to help clear up my mild-ish acne. then, hopefully come october i will be set for subcision for the scarring. my scars are rolling, mainly on my cheeks. some days i notice them more than others. the problem i have is when i look at my cheeks, through two mirrors, you know so i can actually see them, i wonder if because i am looking at them at
a/a weird angel and
b/ through mirrors
that they look works anyways...?
oh, and the celebrity thing. it makes me feel good that they have the same problems as us. and i think - look where they have got to? it gives me a lot of hope....
I have seen pics of liz hurley's scars, they are a lot like mine. i remember someone posting them on this message board i think. oh, and i saw a thing with britney the other day and they were chatting to her while she was having her make up done, and you could see the -mild- acne and scarring. and she has larger pores too on her nose. my dad was watching it with me and he said - 'you have the same skin as britney..... ' as in, my dad probably noticed what i was thinking about.!!

Do not waste your money on N'lite. It is an out and out fraudulent procedure. It will not reduce the appearance of your scarring one iota. I had the procedure done six times, each time the machine was turned up to it's highest level. I have only shallow scarring. N'Lite did nothing. One doctor I subsequently spoke to said N'Lite was fast losing credability in the medical community. Another Doctor told me it was a useless procedure based on his experience.

There are people that are high critical of others and not critical at all of themselves. I've meet some people like them. They are pretty inbalanced though.

Why did this conversation end in 2004? They all got cured (or what is 'cured')?

Yeah, it seems so. Then again, the conversation stopped until 2012 :-)

mine aren't acne scars either....i actually don't know what kind of scars they are. holes in your cheeks from years of picking at your acne (which i never had bad acne at all -- the worst breakout i have ever had was maybe 5 pimples?) and one huge scar on your forehead from a mixture of picking and a tea tree oil burn? there is no forum for that. every forum i've ever seen for skin picking is people discussing the best way to heal pick marks, etc. nothing about those same people years later, no longer picking, trying to heal the damage they've done...
