I want to try this too but I am confused as to whether I should get Niacin or Niacinamide. Are people having success with both?

Niacinamide and Niacin are two different forms of vitamin B-3. Niacinamide does not cause a niacin flush.

Another new form ( Inositol Hexanicotinate) is the one that is assuming the author of this topic with success (400mg), and it's common labeled as "Niacin Flush Free".
This one, for example:
http://www.mothernature.com/shop/detail.cfm/sku/80695

Inositol Hexanicotinate is a stable, non-flushing source of Niacin. This superior source of Niacin works to reduce the common "niacin-flush" problems associated with high doses of Niacin supplements

Anyway, take the INOSITOL composition, then choose the brand with the lower cost wink.gif

Thanks for that.

They only had regular Niacin at the health food store near me and it has given me an all over body rash!

I will try and order some Inositol Hexanicotinate online.

Thanks.

I have a book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing, which can be found at any health food store, but heres what is says regarding Vitamin B3(Niacin, nicotinic acid, niacinamide)

Vitamin B3 is needed for proper circulation and healthy skin. Its aids in the functioning of a nerveous system; in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins; and in the production of hydrochloric acid for the digestive system. It is involved iin the normal secretion of bile and stomach fluids, and it in the synthesis of the sex hormones. Niacin(nicotinic acid) lowers choloesterol and improves circulation. It is helpful for schzophrenia and other mental illnesses, and is also a memory enchancer.

Pellagra is a disease caused by a niacin dificiency. Other symptoms of niacin dificiency include canker sores, dementia, depression, diarrhea, dizziness, fatique, halitosis, headaches, indegestion, insomnia, limb pain, loss of appetite, low blood sugar, muscular weakness, skin erruptions and inflammation.

There are 2 forms of this vitamin: niacin( or nicotinic acid) and niacinamide. In the form of niacinamide, it does not cuase flushing. However, niacinamide does not have all the same properties of niacin.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally I've been dealing with severe anxiety and depression since I was 12 and now it makes me question whether I was niacin deficient all along, since I suffer from severe fatique, insomnia, joint pain , low blood sugar and acne.Recently Inositol has been used in large doses to treat the symptoms for anxiety disorders, so I've been taking it for 3 months with great success, no more panic attacks!

And what about your acne? Any improvement in these 3 months? eusa_think.gif
No one here has assumed the B3 for so long time, your contribution should be precious... eusa_angel.gif

No, I've been taking Inositol by itself for 3 months for my anxiety, but I just started taking Niacin couple days ago. Sorry for misunderstanding.

Hey i was just wondering whether this is still working for you? If so how can i get hold of it. Im currently living in the UK.

How do you use it. I am really sick of having acne. Its only mild with me but it flares up really bad every now and then. Im forever trying diff products.\Im getting married in Nov and im terrified my skin will be bad. Any advice be greatly appreciated xx

[Did you find out any more info on this. Im trying to decide whether to give it a go? Are they safe to take?

You can get it in Holland and Barrett. It was quite cheap I think, £2.50 or so as I recall for 100 x 100mg tablets.

That is where I got it from today. The rash went away okay.

Have you been using that one for long? How are you getting on with it?

Sounds like all who take this have great improvment. Too bad it doesn't work like that for me, 3 medium size ones on my neck and I don't know why but I sure am furious about it. It will be almost a week this thurs. that I have taken it. I know that 7 days is not a long enough time but I was hoping that this would be what I was missing to finally have clear skin at my age(49). Seems like no one my age has this crap to deal with along with wrinkles, lines and gray hair! Sucks, but I am happy for all that have cleared using this. Elf

Sorry to hear that. What strength of tablet are you using? Also, are you by any chance taking it on an empty stomach, or not drinking enough water?

It's been said that it takes about two weeks before a person even notices a pimple on their face. Give it more time.

OK So I was going to wait to hear more peoples experiences with this but I am really impatient so I have just ordered SOLGAR No Flush Niacin - 500Mg

I am a 26 year old male, with moderate acne on my back and neck, my face is perfect most of the time, my acne has got a lot better recently due to diet changes and a combo of Threelac, Zinc and Chromium Picolinate but it is still not 100% and there is no way I can continue on this diet forever, its horrendous!!!

If this doesnt work I am seriously considering Accutane as there is no way I am putting up with this for another 10 years!!!! sad.gif

Please, I would like to know from those people who are starting taking niacin, and says that they had improvements:

1) How long are you taking niacin?

2) When you are talking about improvement, are you referring to 90% improvement/80%/70%?

Please, keep reporting with your experiences.

Only around 5 days or so. I used one tablet for the first few days until I stopped flushing. Then used two and onto three, although I did get quite a bad flush from 3. I'll use 3 again tonight.

I'm using BP at the same time so I can't really tell how it's doing. Although I did get a new spot on my left cheek today, which for the last few weeks has been a tiny bump, which I though was just a red mark. I don't know if the flushing has helped to push it out, so to speak. Another one on my chin has appeared immediately next to one that was already there, however I'm not sure whether they would have came if I'd been using Niacin or not.

I'll keep using it and hopefully stop all together, then see about coming off BP..........

hmm will try this too, although i'm not near 39 yet.

When things act too brilliantly too fast, I get scared about possible side effects that may come later.

Any updates from the OP?

I started a thread in "personal logs" so I wasn't clogging up this post all the time. I posted one-week results pictures there, if anyone is interested in how niacin worked for me smile.gif

Good luck everyone!

It's in the Diet/Holistic Log Subforum, by the way. I just got some PM's from people saying they couldn't find it.

Hi
Started using Niacin on July 5th [see earlier post] i have had 95% success.
God Bless you for starting this post and sharing this with us.
I use the Holland & Barrett £2.49 100MG.
I have also used a 500MG slow release kind from natures remedy £15, but no flush with these.
I have played with the dosage and now I take one 500MG on one day and a 100MG the next.
Be prepared for the flushing, it can be intense.
However, I found that when I was taking 3x100MG a day with main meals, the flushing eased up.
But when I miss a day or 2 the flushing was right back for 15-25 minutes.
I also take other stuff and have an excellent hygene regimen now and it is all on my Blog.
Amazing.
My acne was the cyst/biol type with no puss, just blood. Really red and saw. I'm 39 and done with this acne.

Flip-side....

I messed with the dose because I was feeling tired and had headaches....

It's good to give it a try. May work or nor, it depends ...
500mg is a safe dosage. Damage on the liver should appear after months of takin 4-6g of this vitamin (4000-6000 mg!!!).

So, stay on 500mg for one month, and see if it works for you. Good Luck.
