so a retin-a for face and dan's for back regimen is really sartign to clear me up. the only problem is, i went on an enviromental trip this week with my school and i broke out a bit on the lower halves of my face and back. also, i had to share a room with 5 other girls form my grade. that's when i relaized-

how am i supposed to keep this up?

i take spiro as well, but can't take accutane due to eczema. but i need a long-term solution. four days of a SLIGHTLY different schedule and i break out. also, putting on all my goop in front of them is embarrassing. im startign to let the old misgivings creep back in... how am i supposed to do this in college with a dorm bathroom and a roommate? how can i keep this up everyday, twice a day, for years?! what about vacations if i were to lose track of my luggage? what- go back to square one because of a week or two of oops?

i really need moral support, especially if there's anyone out there who started a regimen anything like mine whilst living at home and then continued to use it after livign alone. that'd be so great. really, any help would be so appreciated!

ughhhhhh

I know this might seem hard, but why not just apply your stuff like it doesn't bother you (even if it does)? If others ask question, educate them. I think a lot of times folks make snide or insensitive comments because they simply don't know what they're talking about.

I'll tell you upfront. You'll find a way. Don't stress about it. Once your in college, you will find a way around you present anxieties. Put them aside until you are actually in the dorms, it's time for your regimen, and you need to act. For now, don't think about it, really. Being anxious for these kind of situations don't help, only provides fuel for your anxiety. You WILL find a way once you get there. Who knows? Maybe you'll start to grow out of it once in college. You REALLY never know. I wish you the best.

I understand what you mean. When I went to college I roomed with my best friend...yet I felt slightly nervous when it came to apply all the stuff to my face. She maybe asked about it once or twice, and instead of being embarrassed and avoiding it, I just told her my 'regime' so to speak. She didn't mind at all, and thought it was interesting.

Honestly, everybody has something they are self-conscious about, or think is weird. Try not to worry and before long you'll see that nobody else is either. =)

wow thank you guys so much
john, those are really smart words, though hard to follow
kairasa, that's encouraging, but the only thing is that i feel that a back regimen is way more conspicuos than a face one

but thanks again

anyone else?

Hey joker, chances are, your roommate's going to have weird habits too. You're going to live with him/her for a long time so don't worry about it too much.

Well, I had those thoughts too. Thinking that this is so weird I am just a normal person so why am I being bothered this much just because of acne? Doing weird things day and night when I know everybody around me simply splash water on their face or nothing at all and yet stay clear.

Well, that's in the past. I discovered the way to be clear for the long term and without any hassle. Thanks to the diet/holistic section of this forum.

Good luck to you if ever you will look into that section too the way I did! wink.gif

Excuse yourself for your shower, do your regimen, go back to friends. Worked for me.

Do your skin stuff right in front of anyone who happens to be in the room. They might ask you questions but the more you try to hide the more curious (maybe even rude) people will get. Be open, be honest. Tell it like it is. What's the worst that could happen? You get embarrassed? You're not going to die of embarrassment. smile.gif

I understand the fear of being ridiculed by others I used to be scared even to mention acne products let alone buying them to my mum of all people, I felt ts ashamed and embarrased so I can only imagine what it must be like sharing a dorm like you. Try to do part of your regime when everyone is asleep if you feel really uncomfortable

whatever you decide best of luck :]

Yeah that works, thanks

but my bigger concern as far as staying out late is being too tired to do it! haha

hahaha

yeah im still home, im nto going to college for another year

started on spiro at 16, almost 17
gotta be sure to drink plenty of water or youll feel like SHIT but otherwise its great
and seems to make my mood swings not as bad too!
the only way it messes w your hormones is it lowers your testosterone levels (ie. less body hair, bigger boobs, woot! haha not really very much but a little!)

Im a sophmore in college this year. Last year when i was a freshmen i had the exact same thought. I kept thinking to myself how i "wished i could see what i would look like 5 months down the road.." you know what, five months and my face was even better than it was at home. Seriously, do not let your acne keep you from being social and meeting people. Everyone has worries when first entering college, especially about acne. Trust me, it will work out. You will get into a groove and you will develop a routine that works for you. College is way different than highschool, the everybody is much more mature (in my experience at least). It will be all good. Good luck cool.gif

Hey jokerj,

I'm sure you'll find some way to juggle your regimen in college. Virtually everyone has some sort of routine they do before bed or to get ready for the day.

There may be a few options for putting on your AHA/BP while in the dorm. In the bathroom, a favourable place for me would probably be to go for the shower, just don't put the water on (duh tongue.gif ). If people get curious just say you're painting your toenails or something (assuming you like to paint your nails). I'd imagine that most dorm bathrooms are like this, but you could also consider applying AHA/BP in the toilet stall (for privacy sake). If I were you though, I'd probably be more apt to apply my regimen creams in the room. Some rooms can be set up where you can make a little 'nook' for yourself to have some privacy from the roommate. For instance, in 2 of the dorms I've been in, there are movable dressers that are pretty high, so roommates put them side-by-side to make a mini wall in between the room. Of course you also have the option to wait until your roommate goes off for the shower to apply it, that would take serious planning and coordination though. And then, you could just go for it wherever and not care what anyone thinks/sees. It depends how open you want to be. I'm sure that there are others in your dorm that will be far more open and 'out there' as you think it's going to be.

I've been in residence for 3 years now, and I'm pretty sure I've seen almost everything. From girls not wearing anything back from the showers to bodily wastes ending up in the strangest of places (puke in the urinals/sinks/showers/water fountains, doo-doo unthinkable places too). There are far worse things to do in your dorm bathroom than applying the regimen publicly. Trust me. wink.gif
