Hi All,

I hope everyone is doing fine. I wanted to get some help with my super oily skin. You see my nose is the most oily part of my face. I dont have current pimples on my nose but the oily skin makes it appear that what looks like to be pimples are always gonna be there. I ve been informed about peppermint oil which didnt really work on me i regard to managing my oily skin. Any suggestions? Thanks, Josh

I've heard that milk of magnesia mask works amazingly.... I don't know where to get it and I haven't tried it. I just use a translucent powder over my whole face and it seems to soak it up. You could try that, know one would know you were wearing it because it doesn't show up as a color on your skin. I don't use moisturizer anymore either and that has helped phenomenally. I used to put it on everytime I washed my face and if I didn't my face woiuld feel really tight and itchy. But then I read somewhere that unless you have dry skin you don't need it, so I stopped and after a few days my face didn't feel tight anymore. And my skin takES waaaaay longer to get the oilies now. And it never feels dry except for everynow and then when I over do something with my regimen and then I just stop using products for a few days and I do use a gentle moisturizer. I use the cetaphil one because I can't be bothered to go buy more, but it has a really oily formula so I try to avoid overdoing my other topicals...

I did it with diet changes. Before that, some supplements made my skin a lot less oily.

And, yes, milk of magnesia is a very good topical for absorbing the oil. And the magnesium is absorbed through the skin which is also beneficial. I never tried it because my skin was no longer oily when I first heard it about it. I wish I had known of it before though.

Thanks kelsie,

You know whats funny I have actually heard of people with oily skin stop using moisturizers all together. The thing that makes the whole issue ironic is, this: Before I watched a documentary called "Food Matters" I was undoubted to follow the advice of doctors of any practice but after watching that video, I have learned that doctors pocket books are padded by pharmaceutical companies and companies that make their products. I bring this up because I was told by 2 different sources of a doctors prospective. The first being a dermatology asst. and a Dr. Murad rep. , who both told me no matter what to continue using a moisturizer on my face despite how oily my skin gets. Another funny thing which i now see as being scary is that the dermatology asst. who told me to do that also told me later after coming back to her telling her that my face was still oily to start taking accutane which indeed solved the problem but the side affects of accutane are very very serious despite though i m sure the doctor was paid ALOT for getting me on accutane. Sorry if i bored u at all, i will start not using moisturizer today. Thanks again Kelsie

you're welcome.

I also agree with alternavista about the diet changes helping with oily skin and acne. I do not have a perfect diet by any means, but I'm constantly trying to improve it. My trouble is that I'll do really well for a while and then I'll crack and order take out pasta or something.... But the few times I've actually managed to maintain an extremely healthy diet for a longish period of time, my acne/oiliness seems to go away.

Good luck with the no moisturizer thing. I really do think it'll help!

I only moisturize once a day. I find out I break out more if I moisturize before I go to sleep

Yes. I just spent a month with visitors in which it was difficult to eat as well as I usually do with more processed foods and desserts than I would normally eat. And by the end of the month my skin and hair was getting quite a bit oilier.

yep, I feel your pain on that front. Once a month I have my autistic little brother Kevin stay over for a weekend to give my parents a break and he's such a picky eater. It's way too much of a hassle to cook two separate meals so I always end up eating a certain amount of crap food. I'm slowly trying to get him to broaden his tastes but it's tricky. He's such a stubborn guy. He actually has moderate acne as well, and he's on antibiotics for it but it hasn't gone away...

Exact same problems... I have extremely oily skin, my nose being the most oily, but I never get pimples there. The only thing I can reccomend that temporarily works, is witch hazel. Again though, it is a temporary solution and can make skin really dry. Best =/

I've tried OC Eight. It does work, but hard to find. I've heard zinc and saw palmetto work too. And Milk of Magnesia which is like everywhere...find it next to your antacids and Pepto Bismol.

And, get some napkins at McDonalds if and when you need to blot. Those things are sponges when it comes to sopping up grease....from fries or noses!

Check out this video:

That video should help, explains why oily skin happens in the first place.

You need to treat the cause of your oily skin and acne in order to get rid of it.

Take care!

I've been devouring peanuts and peanut-related products & nuts for about 20 years. Love 'em.

I've also been on accutane 3 times. Every time, the oil comes back after about 3-4 years with a vengeance.

2 weeks ago, I removed dairy from my diet. I substituted cheese with more nuts. To my suprise, last week I noticed the oil production had shot way up.

So I removed nuts. Within 2-3 days, my oil production got noticeably lower. After a week, it's slightly higher than what I'd consider a normal person.

Don't know if that helps you, but I've read some other info about nuts/peanuts giving people acne/oily skin.

Another thing, I'm not convinced that zinc is good for your skin. It CLEARLY breaks me out in a bad way. When I take a single dose of zinc supplement, I'm guaranteed 3-4 deep & long-lasting zits.
