During the very first time clogged pores started for me around the nostrils, i remember using cetaphil cleanser and i remember the area around the nostrils stinging... maybe it's related somehow but the memory is blurry.
now... cetaphil cleanser does do a great job off getting the oils of the skin, i guess both the good and the bad oils, but do not use it regularly or in great amounts. Make a foam with your hands first and then gently rub on face and wash with warm water...
I would avoid cetaphil, you don't need it unless you think you have very oily skin and that oilyness won't go away with just water/showering.

I agree, when the skin is dry there are cracks in the skin where acne can form, so to seal those cracks you need moisturizer to heal those dry areas. word of caution, pick the moisturizer wisely always read the ingredients.

Everyones skin is different. Some people dont need moisturizer or just prefer not to use it. Not moisturizing doesnt cause acne

The weather can cause dry skin. Its not his fault if his skin is dry

Oil is the cause of acne imo, dry skin is better than nothing. Sure major dry skin is the cause of some, maybe the red spots which don't form into whiteheads, but from a guy's perspective moisturisers are a waste of time, they make my skin look and feel like crap
I'm glad im into a routine without one now, i think dry skin is something that can correlate to diet, and eating some good foods to combat this can do the trick.

Best way to avoid dehydrated skin is to keep the acid mantle healthy. Take fish oil supplements, make sure your cleanser is at a pH between 5.5 and 6.5, don't over-cleanse or over-scrub your face.
Moisturizer may or may not be necessary. I no longer need to use one regularly, because my skin is healthy and well-balanced.

Personally I would highly recommend Shea Butter 100% Organic at night after cleansing your skin. Leave it on while you sleep (sometimes its really thick) for at least 8 hours so your skin fully hydrates.
I used to buy 'Aveeno Intense Relief Repair Cream' and it worked wonders, but it has comedogenic ingredients so I don't recommend it (sometimes it cost me breakouts but really small ones and sometimes it didn't). Just bought 'Out of Africa - Unscented Shea Butter' (organic) to see how it works. But trust me. You want to get rid of dry skin? Get Shea Butter.
For acne I use: Salycic Acid in the morning (sometimes just for spot treatment), and Sulfur Soap at night (love it, but has to be at night 'cause of the smell of rotten eggs. It works so whatever) and after that the Shea Butter.
Good luck
