Hey everyone I'm new here so I thought I'd say hello. This is also the first forum I've ever been a part of so if my typing/forum etiquette isn't up to standard please forgive me!
I'm 23 and I have acne everywhere. My chest/back/shoulders/face, etc. I wouldn't say that it's consuming my face but to me it's still very noticeable. I occasionally have large cysts on my back and chest as well but it's mostly just white and black heads. I shower sometimes twice a day and use various cleansers, spot treatments, vanishing lotions and they seem to help for a day or two before they lose their potency. Another thing I've noticed is that if I were to wash my face 15 mins later it would be super greasy again. I don't eat super unhealthy, I drink about once a week and do smoke maybe a spliff or two per week and I have noticed that it speeds up my heart hate maybe speeds up my entire system because I feel I get greasy quickly after them and need to wash my face.
So last summer I had finally had enough and went to see a dermatologist. He put me on Minocycline 100mg and gave me some topical cream Stieva A 0.01%/4% Emcinka. These kept me in check but never really cured me of anything. Also this dermatologist would apply dry ice to the affected areas every visit and charge me $10 for the treatment. He did this to most of his patients with acne and I tried to do some research on it and didn't find much. This seemed like a sleazy cash scam to me so after a few visits I didn't go back. I haven't been so see a doctor since I was about 14 so I didn't have anyone that I could regularly go to. Luckily my mom's doc took me on as a patient. I told him about my fight against acne and he said most people grow out of acne by the age of 25 but it doesn't look that way for me. I guess he thought my acne was advanced enough to be put on Accutane so I did the blood test and filled the prescription. The perscription I got was Clarus Isotretinoin capsules 10mg twice a day. Today I'll will be my first time taking it right after dinner because I'm supposed to eat or something before hand.
I did a lot of research about Accutane after my doc prescribed it to me and kinda freaked a bit over all the horror stories of depression/violence/dryness/painful joints/liver problems/blood tests/etc. I don't really know what to expect but I consider myself an average person with no prior issues of depression or violence. I believe I have a healthy liver and like I said before my skin is really oily all the time. So who knows what will happen but I'll be keeping a log of my adventures on Accutane under the log section of this forum.
Here goes nothing...
Dust.

welcome to the org kahunah!
your first derm does sound a bit dodge alright, glad your getting more constructive help now! And I know Accutane stories can freak people out but not everyone gets reactions like that. A friend of mine was on it and all she had was dry lips and occasional growing pains. So, if it works for you and your reacting grand then dont worry and best of luck with it!

Hello and welcome to the org!
I don't have any experience with Accutane, but I have heard of it working wonders. This place is definitely an amazing reservoir of information. I hope Accutane clears you, and I also hope that you keep us updated! =)
