I started taking Spiro about two months ago -- two weeks @50mg, four weeks @100mg, one week @150mg). Since bumping up to 100mg/day, my face has been severely dry and flaky -- more so than it ever was on Accutane, although my lips aren't nearly as chapped. Wondering if I can expect this indefinitely
Question for Spiro users

Did you experience any dryness during your Spiro treatment? If so, how bad was it? Did it eventually subside, or last for your entire treatment?

I didn't experience dryness at all - then again, I have extremely oily skin that is normal on spiro, so maybe people without oily skin get dry.
Are you using any sort of topical? I did notice that my face would no longer tolerate Ziana once I started taking spiro, so my derm put me on Klaron and it has worked beautifully.

Yes. It prevents DHT from binding to receptors in the follicles and stimulating oil production. That's how it helps with acne.
It's also a diuretic, so it's dehydrating. I've been told the diuretic effect goes away after a bit, but I never got used to it so I quit taking it.
Why don't you try lowering the dosage. And if your skin isn't oily, then maybe it's just sebum quality or faulty exfoliation that clogs your pores. Eating good fats like olive oil, fish oil, and maybe a GLA source like Borage oil supplements can help sebum quality. And as far as exfoliation, have you tried a BHA? And according to Dr. Perricone, frequent Oprah guest and seller of expensive products, chronic inflammation at the cellular level is what causes mal-formed cells to not exfoliate properly. And that inflammation mostly comes from diet and the abdominal body fat they've been telling us about on the news constantly lately.
