Hello All!
I just became a member today, though I have visited this site frequently for more than three years. Not surprisingly, my experience with acne began three years ago. Everyone has different approaches to acne (the patient's usually being much better than the doctors) and I am no different. Here's mine:
No sweets or sweeteners of any kind. No beans, grains or potatoes of any kind. Plenty of fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. LEAN meats, mostly salmon. Supplement with zinc gluconate (50 mg./day), EPA (1-3 g./day) and DHA (1-3 g./day). My EPA and DHA are from fish oil. Supplementing with Vitamin D has helped too, when I don't have time to spend in the sun. Nuts infrequently and when eaten usually walnuts. Olive oil, canola oil and flax seed oil in small amounts. Absolutely no packaged food of any kind.
These changes have allowed me to progress from moderate/severe acne three years ago to one or two pimples a week now. My infrequent outbreaks come when I abandon my diet (everyone deserves a bar of dark chocolate once in a while!). Diet and acne are inextricably linked. I no longer use synthetic washes of any kind on my face. When I do wash my face it is usually with only water. I can provide before and after photos for those interested, however my before photos will not be upclose shots as I didn't ever think I'd be where I am today.
If you are interested in taking advantage of a few great works on acne, try Rodain's DIETARY CURE FOR ACNE, Logan's CLEAR SKIN DIET and Perricone's ACNE PRESCRIPTION. These are all outstanding books and each has significantly shaped my approach to skin care.
We do not need ignorant and/or self-serving Dermatologists. You have the power within to make the necessary changes. PER your instincts (i.e. your ancestor's diet) overcome this SEVERE disease. PERSERVERE.
P.S. No I am not an idiot, I can - in fact - spell. Admittedly my username is a very poor attempt at a play-on-words. Just trying to inspire.
