I am a mom with a 16 year old son with acne. I am trying to get educated about the drug enough to make the decision, should he or shouldn't he...take the medication. I have read all the side effects and it is scary, but I also read the side effects and all the things that COULD happen with Tylenol...so yes, I am confused. Any help is so much appreciated.

Hi, I'm taking Accutane. I was afraid to start it too because you hear many horror stories, but keep in mind that those instances are rare! He will most likely have lots of the more common side effects such as dry flaky skin, dry nose, dry eyes, body aches, etc. These are all annoying to me but definitely bearable, and far less annoying and painful than acne!! Acne is and was very emotionally damaging to me...I think I have a very pretty face but the acne made me feel horrendously ugly and not want to go anywhere, look people in the eye, etc. So if you feel that the pros of Accutane (increased confidence, clear skin) outweigh the cons (annoying probable side effects, possible other effects) then I would highly recommend it. Good luck :]
