Ok I talked to my c. eng. about all this smelly talk and he said tca does have a pungent chemical type smell before mixing but once diluted to such low percentages using distilled water there is normally a very very slight chemical smell or stale smell. He also said an odor could be caused by mixing tca with tap or anything other than pure distilled water. Chemical reactions will occur with trace elements in unpurified water. Most water (tap) has fluorine, calcium, etc in very small quanities which could cause slight odors depending on the trace elements varying by locations in the U.S. and type of water purification the local municipality uses. Depending on what type of elements are in the water most will react with the tca before the water does. These trace elements have positive, neutral and negative charges associated with them. These react readily with any other chemical. So you could get a hydrogen sulfide (smelly eggs) odor with impure water. If impure water is used more than likely the strength of the tca would be slightly less depending on how many impurities are in the water.

If anyone really wanted to they could have a Gas Chromatograph Test performed to find exact chemical make-up or they could just use another brand... and move on to discussing a plan for world peace. J.K. biggrin.gif

Hope this helps. biggrin.gif/

Does it mean Julie diluted the TCA with tap water instead of pure water? It is much more serious than no license or salon. Anyone who have good relationship with Julie should ask her that is it true that the tap water make her tCA smell like bad egg? Personally, I don't care if she has license or not, salon exist nor not, or even not label the ingredents. However, if she really dilute TCA with tap water then, it is something I cannot take it. I hope all of this is just some misunderstanding.

Hi,

There is no mandatory rule that says you must mix TCA with distilled water for your own concoction. When people make up their own skin care solutions they can put whatever they want in it. It's up to the consumer to decide whether to buy.

And NO NO NO I'm not saying anyone uses tap or any other kind of water to mix TCA. The post is just a POSSIBLE answer to a distinct smell. I don't know for sure. It was just for thought. TCA would be fine if mixed with tap it just might have a more recog. smell and be slightly weaker solution. We drink impure water every day. So again, I am not saying what anyone uses to mix TCA because I do not know. Either way tap or distilled TCA would still work. There are many products with a less than pleasant smell, i.e. sunless tanner, that are great products. Now many here will probably yell at me for saying this but as I've said before other suppliers may have a patent pending thus the hush hush and may use the very best ingredients available adding something that works great but causes a slight odor. No one knows so why not just buy what you like and not what you don't. Many love others products. Its just a difference in opinion.

So that means we've been absorbing everything that's in unfiltered (or tap) water deep into our skin?? That can't be good. :-k

8-[ Most of us *do* shower and wash our faces in unfiltered tap water every day. I think.

Some people prefer the blood of virgins so you're still all relatively "average."

But when you're washing your face with sinkwater, it's just on the SURFACE of your skin.....not being drawn INTO your skin as it does with TCA. I think there's a REASON why you're only supposed to dilute TCA with DISTILLED WATER and I believe it's because the chemicals, etc. that are in regular tap water change the composition of the TCA.

You're putting an acid on your face and you're worried about the amount of tap water in it? TCA can easily cause blindness. My only quarrel with some people selling TCA on the internet is that they are shipping it out in glass bottles inside bubble mailers. TCA is a caustic chemical and should be shipped accordingly whether cost effective or not. If I was a mailman and some cheap sloppy bastard caused me to get that crap on my hands I'd be mad as hell and writing down a return address and making arrangements for a personal visit. Those shipping in such a matter are doing something illegal, unethical, and downright dumb bitch stupid.

Yes, I am worried about the type of water it is diluted with....in fact, I've been wondering about the entire ingredient list for quite some time now. Read a bit more before you come into a thread talking shit. Although I'm sure the postmen of America are grateful for your concern.

I received my 12.5% TCA peel from tcapeels today (I know it's Sunday ... but I must've been out and my neighbour collected it for me).

First of all, it comes VERY well packaged, there was no chance it would have broken or spilt out. It was boxed in very tight. It also includes very detailed instructions. What I find cutest about this delivery, is that tcapeels includes a very nice hand held fan .. which I wish I had had when I did my last TCA peel. I know I'm going to need it!!!

Further, it only took 3 days to be shipped to the UK!! That's service!

I'll try it out in about 2 weeks time (since I only did TCA CROSS 3 weeks ago)
