Hey.
So, I have mild acne -- but I don't think that this is a fitting term. According to the amount that I have, and the type that this website informs me I have, it's mild. But in regards to how much it stresses me out and how much time I spend worrying about my appearance and wishing my skin was nicer, it's severe.
I'll be nineteen this year and I've been struggling with acne since I was about thirteen. It's not hormonal, as even though it gets slightly worse around 'that time of the month', it's pretty awful the rest of the time as well. I've tried every product out there, but I've never really stuck to a strict routine until quite recently. Since the beginning of the year I've been using the same products, all designed for oily skin and I like this regime because it leaves my skin soft and doesn't dry it out. However, my acne is as bad as ever and doesn't seem to have improved at all.
For ages I could never tell if I had oily skin or dry skin. You would think that because of the acne, it's obviously oily. It feels oily, looks oily, so it should be pretty straight forward to diagnose. However, my skin feels tight after I wash it sometimes, and flakes if I don't use moisturiser. Most foundations makes it flake too. I've read that, contrary to popular believe, this is actually another symptom of oily skin. Apparently when the skin produces too much oil, the dead skin cells stick to the surface and flake off later. So I've been using products all designed to help combat the over-production of oil and exfoliating regularily.
I'm getting rather depressed though, because even this doesn't seem to be improving things. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any products that will work as I am reluctant to use anything really strong such as prescribed acne medication. I know that most of this stuff works by severely drying out your skin, which I wouldn't like, and I've also read that your acne can return as soon as you stop using it. I'm just looking for a simple, healthy skin-care routine which will keep my skin looking nice. I don't know if such a thing exists, but if it does, please let me know. I'm at the point where I'd be willing to sell my soul just to have clear skin. I'm so sick of being depressed about it.
Also, apologies for the length of this post -- it turned out far longer than I intended.
Hello there -- I'm new and desperate for help

Have you tried Accutane?
Doxycycline?
I also have mild acne, and a few things I am just trying and heard great reviews on, and my current regimen I've gotten results with.
First, I'm using Doxycycline, 100mg every night.
I'm also using a Mario Badescu regimen.
So far, MB is the ONLY thing that has worked for me! It's gotten me almost clear!

www.mariobadescu.com.
I love it. I bought the Acne Control Kit and Collagen Moisturizer (SPF-15) (...you might also want to consider the Oil-Free Moisturizer (SPF-15) because I heard it was just as moisturizing).
It's kind of expensive, but so far, and it's been almost 3 months, I haven't run out of one product.
They alsooo have free shipping until the twelfth with promo code MBSHIP.
You can get free samples at their website, if you click on consulting. Then if you fill out the questionnaire they'll give you recommended products, and in a couple days they'll email you asking you if you want free samples. Free shipping too, and they take approx. 2 weeks to arrive.
One other thing I'm going to do for my acne is to add The Regimen BP Treatment to my Mario Badescu regimen, since I think I could better prevent breakouts.
It will get better.
Mario Badescu has been my breakthrough, and I think it will only get better.
Good luckk.(:
oops! my after pictureee was the before as well! let me try this again, ahah.

Forget all the drugs!!! I know its not popular, but look at what you eat and drink. I had acne for six months in high school (lucky me, we ate healthy stuff at home). I was working at a place that I could have free pop each day. When I was not working there my acne went away. I found out that the caramel coloring in many products caused my break-outs. I told a friend and she had her daughter stop all dark pop for a few weeks and wow, the acne went away. That is astounding. Experiment with your diet and you could pass up the drugs.
