I am a 31-year-old female, and have suffered from acne since my early teen years. I recently have started to get more acne on my cheeks, nose, and chin and just started seeing a dermatologist after being referred by my new PCP. I have very sensitive, oily, acne prone facial skin and I suffer from periodic (usually seasonal) cold sores around my mouth and dishydrotic eczema on my hands and feet. I have tried numerous OTC treatments for my acne, but gave up after spending dollar after dollar trying new things for my acne, having it completely dry out my skin, super moisturizing to treat the dryness, to just result in another breakout. I then just turned to using Cetaphil Daily Cleanser and Moisturizer every morning and night, which kept my skin clean and moisturized, but didn't do much for my acne breakouts.

Anyway, my new derm - who I was not that impressed with; it just seemed like he wanted to get through the motions and move onto his next patient - has prescribed oral Sprinonolactone 50mg twice a day, Differin 1-2x per day, and Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion as a spot treatment as needed. I have researched each of these and am now nervous to get started. He did not do any blood tests to check my potassium levels, and breast cancer and kidney problems run in my family. I am seeing way too many side effects in my research that scare me as well. Part of me just feels I should not use any of it, cancel my follow-up appt in 3 months, and deal with the acne like I have for more than half my life. Plus, I was recently laid off and am now working a very low paying job (all I can find right now!) that just barely makes ends meet, and this treatment is going to cost me around $45 or so a month, in addition to the $20 I already pay monthly for my Ortho Cyclen birth control and eczema medication! Argghhh! Any advice, personal stories, etc are greatly welcomed and appreciated as I try to make a decision on my treatment. Please help! Thank you.
