So I have been on Doryx for about 3 or 4 weeks now, and I can really tell a difference in my face and chest acne now. I had never suffered from chest acne before last december when it flared up, also with and itchiness that was causing me to scratch so hard I was bleeding. But it definitly looks better today, I'm not sure if its the dory working or the Ziana.
Last year I tried Differin for awhile, with an adverse reaction...
pupcake I think the partying woud make it worse.. wink.gif haha. thanks

SNB, I didn't really have an "initial breakout" like I've had with other medications. The only time it got worse was right when I got my period, which I think was due to hormones since that's when I usually break out anyway. I don't think you should worry, Doryx has been really good to me.

im only asking because, im breaking out pretty bad and ive been on it for two weeks.
ive researched and it says a breakout may be normal cus your body is trying to adjust to the antibiotic.
u think?

SNB, I really don't know. Did you ask your doctor what to expect? Everyone reacts differently to different medications so maybe your body is trying to get rid of the toxins, this causing a breakout, and after that you will be starting to get clear.

I will take some new pictures soon. Everytime I try to upload more it won't let me for some reason.

I needed a new Doryx prescription Friday and when I went to call in my refill, they are telling me my coupon is no longer valid! This means the medication will be $75, which I cannot afford. I have to wait until Monday to get a new coupon from my doctor sad.gif No Doryx for 3 days, I better not break out and get cysts again, I'll be so pissed! sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

So I have been on the Doryx and Ziana for over a month now, and I think my face has gotten worse, as well as my back. My chest has cleared up almost completely, but when it gets hot, or sweaty bumps come up and its so itchy. Maybe it a type of dermatitis? I don't know, but since when does acne itch? Well, going back to the dermotologist soon, as for now its stressing for the AP euro exam sad.gif Freshman year!

Micki that sucks! It sounds like it very well could be some kind of dermatitis. My cystic acne always itched when it was coming in, but if yours is when you're hot or sweaty then it sounds kinda like a reaction or rash. sad.gif I hope they can give you something that will take care of it.

I'm going to try to post new pics, let's see if it'll let me. You can see my skin has no active pimples but the red marks and slight bumps are still there. I wish I had better lighting, my skin really looks a lot better and yesterday I didn't even wear any foundation (which is really nuts for me).

***It won't let me upload any more pictures. It keeps saying: Upload failed. The file was larger than the available space *** Help, any suggestions?

I think you have used all your limited space. You get 1.95MB total per account. Use imgshack or something instead.

So I went back to the dermotologist, and she prescribed Minocycline and took me off of the Doryx...and said if this antibiotic doesn't make a difference in a month, well, she suggested Accutane. I'm only fourteen so it would be kind of a big step. My mom is willing if I decide to do it but...I'm not sure yet.

I'm going to piggy-back off of thatsillygirl's reply.

I'm taking 100mg of mondox daily and applying Ziana gel at night for chin acne. I got this acne due to taking an oral corticosteroid for an allergy I got to a moistuizer I used to use. I know have perioral dermatitis from the corticosteroid (plus I'm on birth control).

Anyhow, I notice Ziana is good for zits that are coming up to the surface. You apply the gel on at night and the forming zit is gone the next day. Well, maybe week or two (or even a month later), the same zit keeps on coming back!

This could be attributed to two things:
1. Your hormones
2. The bacteria is becoming resilitent to the clindamycin in the Ziana gel

You see, you apply the Ziana gel and it kills forming zits, but they keep coming back, right? I don't understand why this is, myself, unless the pore is still clogged and you need the comedo to come out. Really, I'm just out of assumptions. When a zit forms, it has to form and dry out for it to never return. Applying something like Ziana only gets the zit to go back down but you're going to deal with it again, like, a month later. It SUCKS! I never had to deal with this earlier this summer when the company who made my mositurizer switched their suncreen ingrediant. Now I am stuck with this skin problem. Bleh. rolleyes.gif

sorry, I just had to rant. I'm sure you'll have better progress that I have. Take it easy

Hey there! I just now found your log and I wished I had found it sooner! How is everything going for ya?

I am also on Ziana, and have *loved* it. I haven't even used it for two weeks, and my face has seen pretty good improvements. I have my own log about it if ya have time to read (however no pictures sad.gif ).

I had tried almost every topical/pill/wash that a dermatologist could prescribe, and nothing had seemed to work for me. Before Ziana, I had used Differin for over a year. It didn't do anything for me at all. I'm just soo happy Ziana is working because the next step for me would be Accutane, and I don't think i'm ready to make that huge step yet.

Anyways, I hope you continue to have good luck with Ziana smile.gif Keep us updated!!

I def see a progression in the last set of pics you posted.

I recently started the ziana/doryx regimen myself 2 days ago. I struggled w/acne over the last couple of years (I'm 23 now) and I completely had nearly NO bumps/breakouts for about a year using minocycline, benprox (day) and tretinoin (night) and then just a few months ago I began to break out again out of no where! Devastating shit! So I went to the dermo and they switched me from Benprox to Aczone which did nothing. I called them after a few weeks and they say, "Acne is an ongoing battle, just keep doing what you're doing." So, I was like FUCK THAT and made an appt with a new dermo. The dermo I visited told me he believed I basically just became immune to the mino and let's give something else a try, which he perscribed the Doryx. He told me then to drop the Benprox and Teritonin and said he wasn't that big on the topical lotions in the first place and believes the acne will either be controlled by a certain pill or won't, but regardless perscribed the Ziana and for me to take at night before bed. Sooooooooooo, anyway, at the moment I'm completely clear but as all you guys know who battle this shit, that can change drastically when I wake up in the morning. I really at the moment don't think I'm clear bc the meds bc it's only been two days and I read it can take up to 4 w/the Ziana and 3-6 weeks with the Doryx. I'm basically just waiting for it to go to shit on me, lol!

Anyway regimen:

Wake: wash with Cetaphil face soap and then no topical lotion for the first time in years....so weird haha.

Doryx after breakfast

Night before bed: Wash w/Cetaphil face soap and "pea size" Ziana...whatever the fuck that means!! I'm so OCD. I'm like ahhh a little more...then I'm like SHIT that was too much, no my skins gonna be oily and breakout!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
