I've been taking spiro since September. Other than some fatigue/weakness in the beginning, I've not had any side effects and my skin is getting better. However, I had a weird experience this week and I would almost bet money that spiro was involved.

I bought a box of hair dye, the same kind/color I've used for years, because I hadn't colored in quite awhile and my grays were showing. Applied it like always, left it on the same amount of time. When I rinsed it out, about 2 inches of my roots were ORANGE! That was Thursday night.

Yesterday I bought some hair bleach and peroxide. I decided to bleach the color out, then reapply my usual shade. My roots turned white even though the rest of my hair barely changed color (I didn't leave it on long at all). At this point I decided to go to my beautician before I disintegrated my hair.

They had to dye my roots THREE MORE TIMES with pitch black permanent dye to get it to match, and even now there are some brassy tones in it. I've been instructed not to wash my hair for at least three days. My scalp burns and my hair feels like straw. No one at the beauty shop could figure out why my hair would react this way to a color I've used for so long.

Then I started thinking about what has changed since the last time I colored. The only thing I could think of is the spiro. My individual strands of hair are coming in thinner since I started taking it, and after four months it would make sense that I would have around 2 inches of thinner roots. I really think my hair reacted strangely to the dye because the texture of my roots is now vastly different from the rest of my hair!

So I just wanted to put this out there in case anyone is debating a color change. Just be careful - your hair may freak out if you've been taking spiro. I can't say with 100% certainty that the spiro caused this, but it's the only thing I can think of.
