hi ive been browsing these forums for awhile and this is my first post.

i actually dont have acne scars, but what i have is probably much worse than what you guys are goin through...

i went skiing about 3 months ago..(early january) and developed a mild frostbite (frostnip) on my left cheek. it started out as a huge blackish/brownish mark, about the size of a quarter (no joke, it's that big). well, its been 3 months, and its faded only slightly. i would post pictures if i could, but i dont have a digital camera sad.gif. anyways, i went to the dermatologist in early february and he said that it was nothing and that itd go away in three months..(early may?). he says its not a scar because the skin there is perfectly smooth, it is just hyperpigmented.

anyways, the mark has been there for three months and it still has no sign of fading completely (sigh). my parents keep telling me it will go away, but this thing is having a tremendous impact on how i live my life. i have started making excuses to not go out because of this hideous thing on my cheek. its literally taking over my life. sad.gif

do you guys have any suggestions on what i should do? i'll be checking in here often...

My advice: Lots of make-up. Even if you're a dude. Seriously. If you don't want people to notice, you can always start putting more on gradually, so it seems like it's fading naturally.

BTW, is this mark kinda like a blood blister? That's where there's just a collection of old (and probably dried out) black-looking blood under the skin. (I only ask because it seems like that's what frostbite does to people...) If it is, there are things you can do to get rid of it, but, like most things that people do to their skin, it might increase your chance of a permanent scar.

If it *is* hyperpigmentation, though, I hear hydroquinone or various peels will help--but I don't have any hyperpigmentation, so I'm really not the person to ask. There are lots of other people here who would know, though.
