My derm put me on Solodyn 10 days ago because I started having minor breakouts!!! My acne is worse now, in like years!!!(BULLSHIT, I got tons of blemishes and I'm heading home for the Holidays with shit load of redness)

Anywayz....I never heard of this drug before, but all I've read on this is HORRIBLE! Luckily I just started on it and only experienced the initial breakout and some itchiness from it.

The side effects are crazy, the risks are bad, you can actually get other major illnesses from it man, like hepatitis, lupus, autoimmune disease, liver damage, etc.,....fuck this shit....even Accutane aint that bad! Which is why my derm has agreed to put me back on Accutane!(he doesnt like me being on Accutane but he gave in to my plea! HA!)

I found records of hospitals/physicians/pharmacists reports to the FDA on this Expensive/overpriced form of Minocycline drug at this link below!! (man i'm having a hard time trying to insert this link here)

Yepp, I agree. Solodyn did NOTHING for me. All it did was make me break out EVEN WORSE than before I took it AND made me feel EXTREMELY TIRED. Had to discontinue its usage. I wish there was a way to clear this sh*t up without taking antibiotics. They scare the crap out of me.

Is solodyn minocycline? If so, then yes, this drugs can give you severe side effects if unlucky even though the chances of severe side effects aren't as high as accutane but still it can happens. And I am not surprise that you experienced itchiness because tetracycline antibiotics can cause this side effect just like when I was on doxycycline. Luckily, you are smart enough to get out of the drug and most doctors will tell you nothing will happen just like what they said about accutane.

Well you can't act like solodyn is as bad as accutane. The mechanism of action is completely different with the two.

Although an individual may have allergic reactions to certain antibiotic, antibiotics work by killing prokaryotes and leaving eukaryotes alone. We humans are eukaryotes and the bacteria that causes acne is naturally a prokaryote.

Without getting too technical about bacteria which is my speciality, its what I study, you are acting like solodyn is the kiss of death. Its nothing more than true and tested minocycline, coated to be released slowly.

Anyways, I hope accutane doesn't dry out your brain and cause depression.

take care

I've been on accutane and solodyn, and my experience on accutane was far worse than on solodyn by orders of magnitude. The only thing about solodyn is that is has discolored my nails a purplish color, but that is hardly noticeable. It has improved my skin tremendously though. Accutane made my skin very bad after 2 months (but as I understand it, this is normal and you need to wait 5 months for results) and I had numerous side affects (Not just the common ones such as dry eyes and lips... but also serious depression, possibly stunted growth, weak skeleton, mood swings).

You got lucky if that is all you experience with taking Solodyn.... I was put on Solodyn back in May at my request. Four weeks ago starting noticing some changes on my well being. Even though my acne problem improved, I began feeling extremely tired and weak, forgetful and sort of out of it. I noticed an annoying constant tick of my lower left eyelid. Then about three weeks ago I started to experience numbness and tingling down my left arm and left leg. As time progress, so did my symptoms, each day worsening and they were accumulative. My back and left shoulder blade muscles were very tender. I develop a muscle burning sensation on the front upper area of both legs. Also, the left side of my face became numb and developed blurry vision. Became very concern, at this point I was having to actually concentrate to do my job at work (something that it's usually second nature since I have been in my line of work for so long); and having to concentrate during driving my car place to place. When in to see my chiropractor 4 times in a two week span, didn't help. After an assessment by my chiro she determent it was a neurological problem and that I should see a Neurologist, I instantly feared MS ( I have an appointment to see a neuro doc in Sep).

Then last week as I was preparing to take another Solodyn pill, it dawn on me that very well could have something to do with my symtoms. I quickly got online trying to find any information about side effects and personal experiences. Found several, but one story struck me like a lightening bolt. A woman that had been taking Solodyn described the very same symptoms i have been suffering with. I called my derm doc, he said to stop taking it. It's been almost a week, and although not back to normal yet, I'm starting to feel much much better... I plan to keep my appointment to see a Neurologist just in case. I will do an update to let everyone know if all my symptoms eventually subside. Hope this was helpful to someone.

Yes, beware of Solodyn. I ususally have no side effects when taking any antibiotics but this was a whole other thing. I took Solodyn for about 10 days and began feeling itchy during the middle of the day. By the end of the evening, my arms neck and torso had broken out into a rash and red spots. When Iwoke up the next morning, my lower lip was numb, I had swelling in my hands and my elbow joints were aching. I went back to my dermatologist, who sucks and she prescribed me a steroid and antihistamine for the itching. It's about a week later and I am feeling loads better. I do not reccomend these meds.

All meds have side effects. Some worse than others. Take a look at the potential side effects of Tylenol.

Sometimes what people experience isn't side effects, it's an allergic reaction. That's what the poster above seems to have experienced. That happens, too. It's a risk ANYTIME you take ANYTHING, even food.

It sucks that the reaction happened to you but that does not make minocyclin inherently bad for all people. It's bad for YOU, but not for all.

You are very lucky you were only on it a couple of days. And it messed you up that bad?? Wow! I am a nurse, and I should have known better. I had been on it for about 2-1/2yrs and every time I was late on a refill or tried to stop taking it, you wouldn't even believe what I looked like. I am talking like embarassed to even have anyone see me!! redface.gif Make up wouldn't even cover it!! It was everywhere. I couldn't get off of the shit!! Then I had routine blood work done for insurance and my liver enzymes were elevated. I knew it was the Solodyn and I had to get off of it. Plus it wasn't working as well. Yeah, it worked, but who the hell wants to take something that makes you feel like crap all of the time, break out like hell when you stop it (worse than before I started it) and you have to take forever??

Finally I had my doctor switch me to accutane. I waited until I got the accutane in my system before stopping the solodyn but I still broke out like crazy. My face isn't as bad as it usually is when I stop Solodyn, but my back!!! I don't even want my husband to see me without a shirt on and I have been with him for 16 yrs!!!! If I posted pictures you people would be shocked. I was completely clear and in less than a week my back is completely covered with PAINFUL cysts and whiteheads. But I have been off of the Solodyn for 2 wks now so I am not going to put it in to my body again. I probably should have weaned myself, but I don't think it would have mattered.

Solodyn worked wonders for me, dramatically cleared up my cystic acne in just 4 weeks, took about a week to kick in but oh my god it's amazing biggrin.gif , everyday i see improvement. Yes, I still break out with some minor pimples time to time, but the hard cystic acne has shrunken up and now I can't feel any bumps. I'm still on the drug and will be for 4 more months. The only side effects i've experienced have been minor lower back pain, and for the first two days on the pill, tiredness, and that's really about it. I'm sorry for those it didn't work for sad.gif I was also prescribed Ziana and Finacea for my topical creams, but Finacea would irritate my skin and make it red. so i quickly stopped using it and just stuck with Ziana.

EDIT: I forgot to add that my face is still has light pink/red spots from where the cystic acne was, and that's what seems to be taking the longest to heal.
