I think they are called ice-pick scars (I only know the name of the acne scars but I have never seen picture examples of each one). I know I must have had them for a while (I've been suffering with acne since I was like 10-11), but only recently have I become conscious of them. I remember having real bad acne on my forehead, temples and nose when I was younger. I honestly can't remember the state of my cheeks, but that's where all the holes are, nowhere else.

I would say they are pretty shallow but still... My question is how did I get them? Is it from popping pimples or does the scar just form spontaneously when a pimple goes away on its own? Ironically enough, I still get pimples in the cheek area even with all the holes there.

That TCA stuff, can you have that performed in a doctors office? I really am uncomfortable with the idea of doing something like that on myself. One last question, how much would you say a TCA peel would cost? I'd say I have about 20 holes on each cheek, but again, they are pretty shallow, I have to really put my face to the mirror in order to see them (and of course they are more pronounced when wearing makeup). Thanks for your replies! I'm really beginning to obsess over this sad.gif .

I was left with acne scarring after the pimple went away. I did pick 2 pimples or chicken pox marks when I was younger and left with two scars that are worse than the ones I did not pick. You can get scarring either way.

Dr.'s do TCA peels in the office. Do a search on Obagi blue peel. It will provide information on TCA peels.
I mention Obagi because I was on the products but never had the peel. Obagi will run you on the cost, because you must use the products which are expensive and than the peel itself. I believe the product kit with retin a was around 120 and the peel was 350. I heard mixed results from the peel. There are also different TCA peels that are similar to obagi but I found a lot of info on the web concerning the blue peel

FYI: There are photos of acne scars in the FAQ thread.

Acne scars are caused by acne. Some people are more prone to scarring than others, some acne is more likely to scar than other types (severe cystic acne for example), and if you pick at your acne it is possible that it can scar.

TCA peels are best performed by a Dr. Prices will vary - you need to call Dermatologists in your area and ask what their prices are.
