I'm new to posting on the board but have lurked for a couple of weeks now and learned a lot -- most importantly that I'm not alone in suffering from cystic acne.
I've fought cystic acne all of my life. (I'm 37 now.) I used to take oral BC to help control it but the pills gave me such terrible migraines that I stopped using them. The only time I've enjoyed clear skin was the five year period in which I was pregnant with my two children, and nursing them. Now that I've weaned my youngest, my cystic acne has returned -- worse than ever. It fluctuates with my cycle, seems to come when I'm ovulating. I don't want to go back on BC -- first, don't need it, as I've had a tubal ligation, and secondly, I am afraid of suffering debilitating migraines again. (I haven't suffered them except on rare occasion since stopping BC pills years ago.) I've been reading about spiro both on this loop and other online resources and think it's something I'd like to try.
My question -- has anyone suffered migraines that are associated with spiro intake? I haven't found any information online about this, as opposed to searches on BC products like Yasmin or Ortho Tri-Cyclin, which turn up a whole host of hits relating usage and migraines/severe headaches.
Any input would be appreciated. I've started practicing the "regimen" outlined here and can see an improvement in my overall skin condition, but am leary of future outbreaks since I believe my cysts are directly linked to hormones. I've read the thread here on taking Aleve and am going to try it (have often used ibuprofen to alleviate the pain and inflamation of cysts), but am going to my OB-GYN next week and would like to talk with him about a possible Rx for Aldactone.
Spiro and migraines?
