Dehydrated/Oily Skin

My skin is oily yet dry and feels tight even after the moisturizer. It gets these little tiny crepey lines all over (except for my cheeks, which are not acne- or oil- prone, so i don't use any salicylic acid on them) even though I'm only 15!
Do you think I'm overdoing the products? Any thoughts on what I could do to get my skin hydrated and smooth yet not too oily?
If somebody could help, I'd appreciate it!

don't use those lotions/creams. they only wet the surface of the skin and make them worse.
use oils like emu. healing oils.
use them lightly so you don't break out.
be very gentle with your skin and use a gentle cleanser without detergents. i think plain yogurt as cleanser would be fine.
also try aloe vera gel sometime if you want as a moisturizer.
just be VERY gentle. no aggressive scrubbing no harsh abrasives.
take supplements. flaxseed ground 2 tbsp a day. borage oil capsules.
God bless your skin journey

you also need on increase hyalouronic acid levels in the dermis and epidermis. HA creams are only a temp fix because the molecules are too big to get through the epidermis and down to the deeper layers of the skin.

I know you don't want to hear that your skin needs water, but it does. You may have tried the water route, but you may not have tried it long enough. In order for you to notice if a product is actually benefitting you, you need to use it for at lease 4-6 weeks. Try an extremely hydrating mask and/or moisturizer (make sure the ingredients are water based and not oil based) a few times a week, maybe get a facial designed for dehydrated skin.
It's not a fun game to play, but once you find a product or treatment that works for you, the results are worth it.

Are people still convinced (despite a lack of medical evidence) that a lack of water in the skin causes more sebum to be produced?

I'm sure that even a soap with olive oil in it will help wash the sebum from your skin. Is that what you meant?

But yes that it will help wash away the oil and leave a more natural oil on my skin that wont feel so yukky!
Thanks anyway!

i'm sorry for misleading you before but i was really trying to figure out how to heal my skin.
dehydrated skin lacks essential skin lipids that trap water in the skin naturally.
these lipids can be stimulated by niacinamide, myristyl nicotinate, l-lactic acid, linoleic acid, and i think a few other things but our skin needs ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol in a particular ratio in order to effectively trap water in the skin.
there's also something called oral phyto-ceramides but that stuff is popular in japan and only sold in japan...but i found this website called kenko.com that has the stuff the konjac ceramide pure ceramide 1800 but it's sold out. supposedly oral ceramides help ceramides to accumulate in the skin and help to moisturize the skin.
you can also try olay products...regenerist, total effects, and definity lines
but be careful because niacinamide has been shown to stop some kind of enzyme from working which is supposed to help slow down aging...
but someone advised using niacinamide for a short period of time until the condition is healed and then to use something else....
and niacinamide is SUPPOSEDLY different from the stuff nia 24 uses so it doesnt pose the same problems with stopping the enzyme but this is all from people on boards
yeah, and so far niacinamide has helped me the most. linoleic acid helped me immediately too but it's too unstable and goes rancid fast (grapeseed oil, safflower oil)...so it stops working while rancid...

I think I have to give my 2 cents worth here after reading your comments!!!!!!
I am 31 and have the same oily complexion as I had at 13, the level of oil produced has never changed, I wash in the morning, then after work where my skin has a bit of a shine to it then before bed always with dove.....that has been my routine since 13yrs old!
Last January I developed OCD I couldn't stop washing my skin, it didn't matter whether it was dove, industrial handwash or anti-bac wash....I was doing this on average 10times a day for over 3 months.
As the days progressed my skin was geting oilier by the day, before it was oily after a 9hr shift, after 3 months of OCD my skin was dripping with oil after 3hrs of washing, my skin became very dehydrated and sensitive to any products, I could scrape skin away from under the oil.
That was 8 months ago and I'm still getting over it, I am now on accutane to control the oil.
According to your comments this must be a massive coincidence eh???
Don't come on here telling people there's no truth in it when I have suffered first hand and am still suffering!!!!!!
5 days with an ivory soap is nothing, try 3 months!

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that your skin "was dripping with oil after 3hrs of washing". Are you saying that you washed for 3 hours at a time, and yet you were STILL dripping in oil immediately afterwards?

Sorry I wasn't clear enough Bryan even though it was a bit obvious what I mean't!!!!!
How many people do you know who wash for 3 hours straight lol
Lets give you an example
Before OCD - wash at 08:00 - by 17:00 slight oiliness along T-zone
After OCD - wash 08:00 - by 11:00 face covered in excess oil!
I hope this is clearer for you??????

I wear a good amount of makeup so I need a cleanser that can remove every bit of it.
Evening - Nature's beauty cleansing bar...it only has two ingredients...Vitamin E and allantoin.
I then use a toner...Burts Bees Rosewater and Glycerin toner....LOVE THIS!! Makes my skin plump and glowy
Morning- I use Oil of Olay 7 signs of aging cream cleanser with Salicylic Acid to fight acne, then the Burts bees rosewater toner, and I use Olay combination/Oily moisturizer. I was using the cleanser in the evening, but it wasn't removing my makeup very well.
My skin has never looked better!! It's plump, more even looking, and I have a pinkish glow too!! Oh I also take evening Primrose Oil vitamins...I believe this helps too, with the overall look of my skin.
