I'd love it if others could share any experiences with going off bcp or spiro or both so I don't feel alone here smile.gif

I got off the pill in September and have been weaning off spiro for about 2 weeks.
In fact, I haven't taken any spiro in 3 days just in case...

Several negative pregnancy tests over the past week. I have the most distended, bloated abdomen ever (have to unbutton pants to sit) and haven't had a period in something like 50 days. My hair is thinning like crazy. My once extremely thick hair has gotten so thin you can see my scalp. I have a bunch of coarse hairs growing out of my chin and upper lip and jawline. The only thing that isn't happening yet is any acne.

I got on these hormonal treatments because my hormones caused me such terrible acne my whole life. Then the treatments themselves started causing problems (severe vaginal dryness, etc) to the point where I had to get off, and now coming off them is wreaking havoc. What a mess!

so did the pills clear your acne completely?
and do you think it was the the bcp or the spiro that gave you the weird side effects?
what other bad things made you get off hormonal treatments?

hope everything gets better! btw, there's plenty on this site (mostly related to accutane use) about helping to thicken thinning hair! good luck!

Thanks!

The bcps cleared my skin very well for years. Spiro didn't really provide much added benefit on top of those after 9+ months.

Conversely, spiro didn't give me much of a problem, but the pills did.
spiro gave me:
a flat stomach and bigger boobs (loved that!)

trisprintec gave me:
clearer skin, but
severe vaginal dryness to the point where it was unbearable.
a very bloated belly (before spiro anyway) and a puffy face and swollen ankles once a month
I'd get very, very emotional around my period (only on the pill)
a few small melasma spots on my forehead and on either side of the bridge of my nose

Not sure on the hair thinning as it started after I went back on the pill and spiro, but the other things I'm sure were from the pill because I put up with them for years and years before I even knew spiro existed.
