I'm a 16. My acne just started up a few months ago, about two(when school started).. It might be because I joined a extra curricular activity that requires a lot of sweating.. I honestly don't think my acne looks that bad, and I've had others tell me it doesn't look that bad, but then there some people who say it looks terrible. I started using pro-active but it really wasn't doing that much besides making my face feel fresh. My mother brought me to the dermatologist 3 days ago.. he gave me samples of two different types of medications, Differin (to put on at night) and Clenia (to put on in the morning. He told me that these medications will push out any acne left under the skin, and will prevent any more from forming. He said to come back in one month to see if the medication worked at all, and if it does, he'll prescribe it to me. I hope it works! Now what I'm wondering, can I use any part of the pro-active kit with these two medications? like, can I use the refining mask before applying those two medications? eusa_think.gif

PS: last night I was at a concert and somehow I got a cut on my cheek, and my chin.. how do I prevent scaring on these cuts? Thanks. *I put Neosporin on them already, hopping that doesn't cause a breakout*.

So right now this is my routine:

Before I sleep:
* Wash face with Clean & Clear Sensitive Skin Deep Action Cream Cleanser
* Pat down face with towel, let it dry for 5 minutes
* Apply Differin

When I wake up:
* Wash face with Clean & Clear Sensitive Skin Deep Action Cream Cleanser
* Pat down face with towel, let it dry for 5 minutes
* Apply Clenia

Should I be using the Clean & Clear Sensitive Skin Deep Action Cream Cleanser? Or should I switch to another face wash? My dermatologist told me I should use a face wash before I apply the medication, is Clean & Clear a good choice?

Hey there--I hope the prescription meds help. They have really helped for me. I would recommend having a regimen that is as simple as possible to start. That way there are fewer variables to play with if it's not working. I would stop using the Proactiv for now, if I were you and do apply the topical prescription meds EXACTLY as your doctor directed.

As for Clean & Clear, I don't use a cleanser with additional medication in it (don't know if the C&C has anything or not--probably benzoyl peroxide or salacylic acid?) so I'm again, simplifying the variables. I really like Purpose liquid cleanser (you can find it in bar or liquid at most drugstores). It's gentle but actually feels like it's cleaning, as opposed to Cetaphil (which I just can't deal with).

Good luck!

Alright, so it's a month today since I last visited the dermatologist. I went again today and he told me the Differin was doing it's job (hopefully) and that the Clenia was'nt really working and he wanted to put me on antibiotics, I asked if there was anything else I could do before I went on those, since I don't like pills. He gave me a sample of BenzaClin (clindamycin - benzoyl peroxide gel). He said use the BenzaClin in the mornings for now, and if it doesnt irratate my skin (I HOPE) use it at night as well, on top of the Differin.

Hopefully it works!
