I suffered from mild acne between the ages of 14 and 18, which naturally cleared on it's own, leaving me with clear skin between the ages of 19 and 21. However at 21, I suffered from what appears to be an allergic reaction to an ingrediant found in the sugar coating of a packet of medication I had taken. this reaction occured within the first few weeks of the med and after finally twigging I stopped the meds and went to my GP, who diagnosed me with an acne-like dermititis/rash. As a result of this acne-type reaction he told me I could have treatment for it to clear it up. Seeing as mine was much like acne, he suggested Dianette, which I agreed to. However, after having read up about how Dianette works I am now wondering if it was a wise move taking this pill for what I have - I do not suffer excess oily skin, have not been a sufferer of acne for years, and furthermore what I have isn't even 'proper' acne anyway.
Therefore will this even clear my skin for good, and more importantly could it cause more harm than good and actually cause 'proper' acne after I come off the Dianette???

I'd really appreciate any opinions of my situation
Thanks

This is just a suggestion but maybe you could asked to be referred to a dermatologist because although GP can be good they have to deal with all kind of health issues and may not give the same advice as a specialist. Also I think they try not to recommend dianette any more, i'm not really sure why though.

yeah I have in fact now made an appointment today to be referred, which is what I initally suggested to him but he seemed to feel Dianete was ideal - usually you just assume the doc knows what he's doing don't you. I've never really been happy about going on this but I've given it a go anyway. I personally believe it's the wrong thing to have given me in my situation as I am stressed it will cause me a real acne breakout once I've finsihed the course, but in the end I was desperate to sort out the condition which had already lingered for a few months.
Thanks anyway

Anybody else got any other advise as well?
