Hi All!
My gyn agreed to write me a script for spironolactone because I can't get in to see a derm until Feb and in the meantime my acne is getting progressively worse. She wrote it as 25 mg tabs and gave me enough to take 4 pills a day.

In the last two weeks I also started solodyn 90mg per day and I'm using differin at night. These were both prescribed by my family doctor. I'm a 32 year old female and I've been on Yaz for a few years.

1. Can anyone comment on me taking the spironolactone on top of the solodyn and Yaz?
2. Will my bcp still be effective for birth control if I take the spiro?
3. Should I start at 100 mg a day or slowly work the dose up?

My gyn didn't give me much info because she said she doesn't normally prescribe spiro. I didn't complain though because I'm feeling absolutely desparate being that I can't even see a derm until Feb.

I'm a 55 yr. old female who began taking spiro 100 mg.(a.m.) and solodyn 45 mg.(p.m.) in Sept., as well as, using differin .3%. Still taking meds. but have discontinued using differin. I think it(differin) was too strong for my skin. But I've used lots and lots of antibiotics and topicals in the past 43 yrs., so who knows? Something( she also gave me brevoxyl face wash and rosac(sulfa sulfacemide moisturizer) touse w/ all the other stuff!! Still not sure what, caused my face to swell, eyelids to become red, irritated, itchy and my eyes to begin seeping. My derm diagnosed me w/contact dermatitis and gave me some samples of verdeso foam to use. The cd has cleared up. Currently,I'm using atralin gel .05% which is a tretinoin. My skin has been oily all of my life. So I don't moisturize very often. However, by following this regimen, my face isn't dry, red or irritated any more:) My main concern is all of the side effects of these meds. I also am not taking any bcp. In the past, a few years ago, I took ortho tricyclen and another in a purple suede pouch(either yasmin or yaz) but discontinued taking any b/c of side effects. The ortho did seem to help. But it could also have been the regimen I was following at the time too(doxycycline 100 mg./2x/day., purpose soap, put benzaclin on 2x/day. Good luck. I hope this info is somewhat helpful to you.
