But if this were true, wouldnt sex cause the same problem, and when I was with my gf I was just fine. and we broke up and I haven't gotten laid in sometime and my face is much worse..

I also read that the reason masturbation might cause acne is because it spikes our hormones because we get "excited."

Anyway it is simple:
#1: By default, we have an hormonal problem that others don't have.
#2: When someone has a partner their sexual activity is usually more balanced and does not consist of long periods of sexual activity numerous times a week or a day.
#3: So people who masturbate tend to do so very frequently, for periods of time that are greater than if they had sexual intercourse.
So in the end people who have hormonal imbalances and who masturbated a lot are not comparable to people who don't have hormonal imbalances and who have normal sexual activity. It is very different, and I think people tend to overlook that.

As a woman,I have investigated this theory as well,although it is probably different for guys.
I think masterbating (may) help a guy with acne because in essence,he is getting rid of that built up testosterone.
A woman,on the other hand,would seem to generate testosterone by masterbating.So one would think it would worsen acne for a woman.
Or,we could chuck those ideas and say that it isnt the masterbation itself that breaks us out,but the hormones that are driving us to masterbate in the first place?
isnt testosterone the root of all evil when it comes to pimples?

Yes this is what I noticed too. It doesn't stop the acne completely, but no masturbation seems to make the face less oily.
I think the recommendation I can make is that you should try to really limit how often you do masturbate, like maybe twice a week no more. And when you do, don't sit down two hours looking at porn, just take 10 mins and be done with it. I really think this makes a difference.

1. Why would masturbating make your face oily? Maybe you should wash your face afterwards?
2. Maybe you should try retin A which should clear up your acne and then you can still masturbate or have sex or whatever

1- Hormonal something something. When you masturbate you do so more frequently and for longer periods of time (usually) than with intercourse.
2- Yeah sure go on Retin A and voilà all said and done ktnxbye. No one ever though of that!

I say if it works then good.
If it doesn't ...well, you probably got a lot more done in the day considering all the extra time. So that's good too.

It's not as simple as some people say. "Ohh, stop eating chocolate and start washing your face."
Ok.....thanks. I guess I was so STUPID that I haven't tried that in the past 10 years.
My acne is quite odd, once I get rid of a zit, another one will pop up. It's like there has to be one on my face at all times or they'll get pissed off and pop 3 of them up just to spite me.
Anyways, for the past 3 years, I've pretty much just given up. I'll wash and just put some cream on here and there, but I have stopped actively fighting it. Then a few weeks ago something happened and I decided that enough was enough.
I went to bed one day and right before I went to sleep, I could feel it. Something was brewing on the tip of my nose. This was going to be bad, I thought. I slapped cream on like a mad man, anything to prevent it. But to no avail. I woke up with the BIGGEST zit known to man on the tip of my nose. It was there, like a beacon. This wasn't one of them pimples you can just pop. It was red and underneath the skin, in a protective bunker, not willing to move an inch.
Worst part of the story? I had classes all day that morning with a room of 30 people. 30 people that I know and would see me the moment I walked on. 300 people I could blend in and hide; 30 people? No such luck.
23 years old, University student, going into law, and having the nose of Rudolph. I can't live like this anymore.
So I was browsing around and I saw someone say that not masturbating helped them. I thought what could it hurt. So I decided to try it. I lasted about 1 day. Let me tell you something, on a BAD day, I masturbate ATLEAST once. On a good day, probably 3 times a day. Its just something to do and relaxes me. So I decided to put some really willpower into this.
As of this writing I have not masturbated for 7 days. In these 7 days, I have not gotten ONE pimple. Not one! Trust me, everyday I would wake up from bed and expect to see a fresh new friend to greet me. Not having one is remarkable for someone like me, especially within a week. MAYBE its a coincidence, but it would have to be the hugest coincidence in the world. No, I'm not taking a new drug, not using a new soap, not drinking more water. I have been just staying on my same routine.
But I have to take into account that maybe it's a coincidence. I can't blow it off, so I plan on sticking to this for a month. A month. How I am going to do it for a whole month is mind boggling but I have to do it.
I know people here will say "Ohh, there is no correlation between acne and masturbation."
Maybe this is true, but I also believe everyone is different, thats why there is no one cure for acne. That's why this probably won't work for everyone either. But honestly, if you're like me and you've tried everything EXCEPT this, then honestly, what do you have to lose? If you have the willpower, just try it for one week. If you don't see results by the seventh day, then it probably won't work for you, but I hope it works atleast for another person like it did for me.
Thanks everyone and I will update this thread in 3 weeks and tell you guys everything. Writing this post has made me very happy and I just hope to God after a few more weeks time, I have some positive results to post!
I would rather live with acne than to not masturbate. That sounds absurd. Even if it's the miracle cure, masturbation is way too important, LOL.

I guess I have more will power.
But whatever, it hasn't helped me since I broke out anyway. But I think my problem is lack of sleep.

"Testosterone" is also known as "androgen"
I have read that acne and excessive oil production is known to be linked with high testosterone levels in people.
But testosterone is also known to affect/inflict;
*Hair Growth (usually excessive, maybe hairs on ears)
*A High Sex Drive
And many other things, here Is some helpful Information;
Pre- Peripubertal effects
Pre- Peripubertal effects are the first visible effects of rising androgen levels at the end of childhood, occurring in both boys and girls.[vague]
* Adult-type body odour
* Increased oiliness of skin and hair, acne
* Pubarche (appearance of pubic hair)
* Axillary hair
* Growth spurt, accelerated bone maturation
* Develop hair on upper lip and sideburns.
Pubertal effects
Pubertal effects begin to occur when androgen has been higher than normal adult female levels for months or years. In males these are usual late pubertal effects, and occur in women after prolonged periods of heightened levels of free testosterone in the blood.
* Enlargement of sebaceous glands. This might cause acne.
* Phallic enlargement or clitoromegaly
* Increased libido and frequency of erection or clitoral engorgement
* Pubic hair extends to thighs and up toward umbilicus
* Facial hair (sideburns, beard, moustache)
* Chest hair, periareolar hair, perianal hair
* Subcutaneous fat in face decreases
* Increased muscle strength and mass [7]
* Deepening of voice
* Growth of the Adam's apple
* Growth of spermatogenic tissue in testes, male fertility
* Growth of jaw, brow, chin, nose, and remodeling of facial bone contours
* Shoulders become broader and rib cage expands
* Completion of bone maturation and termination of growth. This occurs indirectly via estradiol metabolites and hence more gradually in men than women.
Adult testosterone effects
Adult testosterone effects are more clearly demonstrable in males than in females, but are likely important to both sexes. Some of these effects may decline as testosterone levels decline in the later decades of adult life.
* Libido and clitoral engorgement/penile erection frequency.
* Mental and physical energy
* The most recent and reliable studies have shown that testosterone does not cause Prostate cancer, but that it can increase the rate of spread of any existing prostate cancer.[citation needed] Recent studies have also shown its importance in maintaining cardiovascular health.[citation needed]
* Increase eumelanin and reduce pheomelanin[citation needed]
In animals (grouse and sand lizards) higher testosterone levels have been linked to a reduced immune system activity. Testosterone seems to have become part of the honest signaling system between potential mates in the course of evolution.
Therefore I gather that acne, excessive oil production, acne/acne breakouts in males or females, female breakouts when expecting/on a "period", sex, sex drive, hair production and many other things are related to testosterone in one way or another, maybe not directly.
Masturbating ("Wanking") will affect the testosterone levels in a person if done frequently. It seems that, from users posts and other information about the web, it affects acne too, in a negative way.
Hope this helps a little!.
