Has anybody here got a blood clot from taking yaz or any other type of birth control pill? I dont know for sure if that is what I have but the other day I noticed a vein in my arm that was kinda bulging out and a little painful. I didnt think anything of it until yesterday when I noticed the vein again and it was painful. The vein is in the shape of a V and in the middle of the V its more like a reddish color. So I called my doctor and he told me to stop taking my birth control pill and that I need to see him today to figure out if its a blood clot. I am really scared about this and was just wondering what other people here have experienced while taking this pill?I have only been on Yaz for about a week and a half so not sure if thats it or if it was from the Trinessa that I was on before. I also found out from my doctor that my sodium levels are very low and that I need to stop drinking so much water and eat more salt. I thought that was odd since I never had any issues before. I always drink a lot of water and didnt realize it was that bad for me to drink so much. I am just always thirsty.

Even if you do have a blood clot, there are treatments for the clot. Try not to be so worried (I'm sure you've already had your appointment by now and know more so are less worried.)

Regarding your water consumption, thirst and low salt: PLEASE tell your doctor. List any and all symptoms you can think of, write them down and call your doctor back. That combination of symptoms can signal a few different problems, all of which are treatable. Tell your doctor exactly how much water you drink daily, and whether or not you follow a low salt diet.

Good luck, I am pleased that you noticed your symptoms so quickly and called your doctor! Good for you!

Oops somehow that message got posted twice.
Wynne, I went to the doctor and I do have a small clot in the vein. I have to take 600mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day for a while. I was surprised I didnt have to take a blood thinner but I guess my doctor knows what he is doing, LOL! I was told I can no longer take any type of hormonal birth control. There is an IUD that is hormone free that i could take right? I really want to get on accutane but I know I cant do that without being on some type of birth control and then using a backup method too. My face is a mess now and I am sure my hormones are completely out of whack. My derm wanted me to try spirolactine before accutane but I dont know. Any thoughts there? Regarding my low sodium that was from me drinking around 200 ounces of water a day which I found out is really bad. I never really thought about it until today when I added it all up. I was told to not drink more than 80 ounces a day at the most. They took my blood again today but thought that once I reduced my water consumption things would be fine since my sodium levels a while ago used to be fine. I had an allergic reaction to Bactrim last week and I was drinking even more water since it was making me super thirsty and then when I had a fever I tried to cool myself down with more water so I think that made it worse. Its been a rough skin week though with not being able to take Bactrim anymore and now the pill. I am up for any advice.

Ah, you've had a rough week for sure. Don't try anything new right now until you've completely recovered from your ordeals. Please also check with your doctor about the advisability of any treatments you do wish to try, including any over the counter ones. Benzoyl peroxide should be safe but please check with your doctor before trying the regimen.

Did the doctor call the vein a phlebitis? That's an irritation of the blood vessel; never heard of ibuprofen for a clot, but it makes sense for a phlebitis. Phlebitis can be a precursor to thrombophlebitis (a blood clot) but doesn't mean that there's a clot present.

Please also always mention the adverse reaction to Bactrim ANY time you go to a doctor; you are now not to ever take any sulfa medications ever again so as to avoid extremely dangerous adverse reactions.

Good grief, that's a lot of water.

Wynne
Thanks again for all of your helpful info. I will make sure to check with my doctor before I try anything new in the future. Yeah I think you are right about the phlebitis. That must be what it is. My doctor never said for how long to take the ibuprofen so I gotta call and find that out too. That is good to know that it might not develop into a blood clot. I feel so much better now. I am now researching paragard since I think its a hormone free IUD. I will wait a while to get on it but it sounds like a pretty good thing and it lasts for such a long time.
Yeah I learned my lesson about the water. I will have to actually monitor how much I drink now, HA!!
