Hello all-I have quite the scenario for you. Hopefully someone has an idea as to what is going on.

I started taking birth control to manage my periods when i was a sophomore in high school. I believe it was later in the year, and by the time my junior year rolled around, I had full-blown, horrible cystic acne. I continued to take Yasmin. I also took various antibiotics, and finally, took accutane. I completed a six month course, and by my senior year, my skin was very clear. It continued to stay clear, and I kept taking the Yasmin. However, my acne came back. This time, just as bad as last...and I went back on Accutane. I completed a five month course, and about a month after finishing, my acne came back again.

Within the past three years, I have been taking Yasmin continually. My mood swings, anxiety, depression and irritability has been (at times) out of control. I feel as though my emotions rule my life and I am not the same person that I used to be. My acne has responded very well to the Accutane, but my acne always comes back.

What I am getting to is that I think Yasmin is causing my acne. I never had cystic acne until my junior year...I never had cystic acne before taking Yasmin. I also have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and Syndrome X (High-Blood Sugar/Insulin). These are directly related to estrogen-domincance, which would further on be encouraged by the Yasmin.

I am at a dead end; I am so frustrated and do not want to deal with acne any longer. I am almost twenty! Have any of you ladies had this same thing happen?? I am convinced that I have hormonal acne. Have any of you gotten cystic acne from Yasmin? What did you do when you stopped taking Yasmin? Did you use any hormone-supportive supplements? ie Progesterone cream, DIM, etc.? Help!!!!

Thank you! surprised.gif

Why are you still on Yasmin? And was your skin clear before you first when on it? I tried Yasmin a couple years ago because I'd read it was excellent for acne, but ended up getting a lot of cysts on it. These cleared up about a month or more after I went off Yasmin - without the aid of other medications. I tried Yaz as well but it had a similar effect, went off that, and my skin seemed to improve.

Do you absolutely need to be on birth control? If you do, I'd suggest you start looking for a new one, possibly with very low estrogen if you think that's your main problem. Yaz has very low estrogen, though you might want to steer clear from Yaz/Yasmin products after this experience. Ortho Lo has a low estrogen dose as well.

I was put on birth control to help my acne, and just have never stopped taking it. I dont NEED to be on it, per say...

Has anyone had acne from yasmin??
