I was just prescribed Loestrin 24 Fe today at the gyno and I'm a bit nervous about taking it.

The last time I was on BCP was at the beginning of this year. I was on Yaz for 5 months, and it broke me out like crazy. My face was in pain from all the deep cysts I got all over my chin and mouth area.

I'm wondering if anyone has been on both Yaz and Loestrin and has had it affect them differently? Honestly, I was miserable for a long time and it took a long time to clear up even after I was off of it (the scarring and everything), so I'm wondering what I'm getting myself into. :/

Thanks smile.gif

Hi. Funny enough, I am in the same position as you are right now. I was on Yaz for a little over 3 months and it gave me the worst cystic acne on my chin that I have ever seen! It was horrible. I am still trying to recover from it... devastating.

I just went to my doc today and she gave me loestrin 24 fe. I don't know a lot about it, and like you, I am terrified to start it because of what happened with Yaz. My doctor told me that if it doesn't help clear your skin after 4-6 weeks, then get off of it, because it will just make it worse. There's no real guarantee that one pill will be great or be bad.. I think it's just a trial and error thing, unfortunately. I am thinking of going to my dermatologist and getting a prescription for something ahead of time and then starting Loestrin.

I've never been on Yaz, but LoEstrin 24 Fe is the best birth control I've ever been on. It cleared up my skin and put a stop to my periods, which was lovely (but a bit nerve-wracking at first, since my doctor neglected to tell me that there was a good chance that I wouldn't get a period on LoEstrin 24 Fe--I took about ten pregnancy tests during my first two packs).

I'm on regular LoEstrin Fe right now because I don't have insurance, and it's okay, too. My skin's nice and clear (although I think that has a lot to do with The Regimen), but it makes my period all wonky. I can't wait 'til I have insurance again so I can get back on LoEstrin 24 Fe.

I was on Loestrin last year for about 3 packs, not for acne but for BC use. It broke my skin out like crazy. Thanks to Loestrin I had a big ass pimple on my forehead on my wedding day and crazy breakouts during my honeymoon. Now I am on Yaz, specifically for acne, I’m only on my second back but so far it seems to have made things worse.

im convinced that yaz is the biggest sham of all time. seriously, just stop taking it. switch to something more dependable. i was on it for 3 months and it made my life HELL.

i went on zovia after my yaz disaster, and it cleared me right up.

I was on Yaz for about 7 months and HATED it, it did nothing for my skin and created loads of other problems for me. I switched to Loestrin 24fe and I love it, but it doesn't really do anything to help my skin. Yaz was a disaster for me though, so I am just glad to be rid of it.

Hello! Ok so here is my story with these 2 pills. I started a new skin care regime of bp wash, alcohol pads, duac and differin in late January 2008. Then, in mid March, I started taking Loestrin 24 to regulate my insanely painful periods. From the time I started taking it in March to the time I finished taking it in August, I got my period every 2 weeks on the dot!! It was super annoying, but I do have to say they were not as painful. Also during this time, especially April and May, my skin was the CLEAREST IT HAD BEEN since pr-puberty which was over 6 years ago. I was thrilled and assumed it was my skin care regime. However, here's the twist. I went to my ob-gyn in August and got switched to Yaz becuase of my period dilemma. In september I had the most awful awful breakouts you could imagine. My skin was literally DISGUSTING. It was nearly as bad as when I started going through puperty. It was really awful, and devastating as you can imagine. Luckily these oily, awful, messy breakouts subsided by the end of the month, but to this day my skin is still super bad (it's March 09), even though I am still using the same skin care regime as I was a year ago, and even did a course of Solodyn antibiotics which did nothing except give me rediculously bad headaches. Moral of the story being, that I didn't make the connection between Loestrin and clear skin until very recently. The whole time I was on loestrin, my skin was beautiful! I really don't know why that is, but that's how it happened. But since that's in the past, I am going to my derm tomorrow and demanding spiro! lol. Anyway, I hope this helps! Sorry for writing a novel!! eusa_dance.gif

Okay so my OB put me on Loestrin 24 FE because I have PCOS (which is linked to acne and other things) I have been dealing with acne for about 4 years. (I'm 34) Today was my 3rd day taking this pill and I HATE it. My acne has never been this bad before. It is just unbelievable how bad I broke out. I am calling my OB tomorrow to get something different. I don't want to take the chance of it continuing this way. I went from having just 1 pimple to about 25 of them. Does anyone else have this problem?

for a while I had been wondering why my acne had gotten so horrible when its been fine for years and years. The I realized it started when I started Loestrin. I looked up side effects of this pill and found SO many stories that are exactly the same. I'm not going to take this pill anymore as it has made my skin terrible. I feel so self consciouss about this. Its terrible....
Has anyone found that stopping this pill helped clear their skin??

Loestrin 24 fe is the greatest thing ive ever decided to take. It has helped my periods, my face, and it has not caused any weight gain. My face is clearing up soooooo much. Give loestrin time usually you wont see improvements until around the 2nd or 3rd month. I am soooo happy with loestrin!

Well, I am 30, and have been on loestrin 24Fe for probably 8-9 months now. I switched to it from the Nuvaring. But I have had terrible acne around my mouth that is inexplicable!! I never really thought to associate it with my BC until I was at Sephora and the girl there told me it was probably hormonal...

It looks like on here there are people who have had acne from Loestrin and some who have not... Those who have, have you found anything that works better since? Any ideas would be appreciated, since I am definitely not enjoying acne at 30.

Hi! I have struggled with acne and hormone imbalance for years. I was recently prescribed Loestrin 24 Fe. I am almost finished with my second month, which I'm excited, because the longer you stay on, the more your body gets used to the medication. My skin used to be really inflamed, so I want to say that in about 3 weeks, I saw a difference, I could cover up my skin and not have red dots poking out. My skin keeps getting better and better, occasionally pimples, but not like I used to.
There are 24 active pills, and the last 4 are iron supplements, which is an important vitamin during menustration. Women have low iron levels during their menustration, which causes us to crave breads and chocolate.

In addition, to my birth control dosage each day. I use Trader Joe's tea tree oil wash, which works good, it dries out my face a bit, but I make sure I moisturize with whatever moisturizer I have. I like to use Aveeno face moisturizer because it aims at evening the skin tones. After that dries up, I dab on Ambii cream on my scar spots, wait for that to dry and then go to sleep. Ambii cream cannot be applied during the day time because it is a skin lightener.

I just looked up at your post, and I see you posted this in 2008. Wow, that is very long ago. Well, I hope that you're skin cleared up.

Wow, I'm surprised I'm the only one in this thread who had GREAT luck on Yaz! My skin started clearing and healing within 2 weeks of starting Yaz..it was amazing. I only had one major breakout during the entire 3 years of being on it. I went off because of the emotional craziness and loss of libido..well I've been off for 5 months and my skin is WACK! My chin breaks out like crazy now..it really sucks. I'm going in for an exam and to get a rx for birth control again to control this acne and for the whole pregnancy thing..

Maybe since I had luck on Yaz..i should just do that again? Because now I'm afraid if I try Loestrin , it will screw with me since everything had the opposite effect for everyone else here, it seems.

i must be the only one who absolutely loves Yaz!! i saw a dermatologist and she put me on it solely for acne. i had awful skin, huge cyst like pimples and bad scarring. after only 2 or 3 weeks on yaz i didn't break out ever, not even on periods. i have had maybe 3 little pimples in over a year. i recenetly switched to tri-cyclen lo because yaz had a recall and i HATE it, now i am hoping to try loestrin...but these reviews are all over the place!! i highly recommend yaz, minus the health risks tongue.gif
