That madellic acid crap was the beginning of the end for me! It turned my skin to pot in a matter of days! I used that mess and my skin developed this layer of hard, crusted skin and then I just started to breakout like crazy! This was back in December when I first read about it on the boards. I am still trying to repair the damage! Lactic and Glycolic acids are your safest bet.

Side note: I really do hate it when crapy stuff if is targeted at minorities "oh this product is just for you, specially designed for you" and it turns out to be the worst product imaginable! EXPLOITATION AT ITS FINEST!

Just my opinion biggrin.gif .

Maybe you're allergic to the algae extract in it. I LOVE the mandelic serum, it works great for me. Its exactly the opposite - I dont get any breakouts if I use it twice a day and it makes my skin significantly less oily.

According to zerozits.com algae extract has the worst rating for comedogenicity and irritation, so I guess Im just lucky it doesnt affect me smile.gif

I first used Mandelic Acid back in January and it made my fairer skin slightly more fairer but didn't change my hyper-pigmentated areas. I only used it for like 2 weekd but I figure that if after 2 weeks it lightened my fairer areas then it should have also lightened the darker areas.
I too got a hard crusty thick skin like patch on my left cheek after using Mandelic Acid so I quit it.

Now My Derm gave me Mandelic and i tried it for almost 2 weeks.
This time it broke me out so I quit it.

I don't think its working for me.

He only gave me the Mandelic because i was asking about Mandelic peels and he said to use the 10% serum for 2 weeks till I next saw him and he would then decide on whether or not to use the Doctor strength peel.

Well i last saw him on Monday and he didn't want to use the peel.

H e gave me Glyquin with 4% hydroquinone instead.

All I want is to slough off my top most skin layers over a week or 2 in a safe manner. Why the heck is it soo hard to exfoliate without further scarring.

I have dark skin a type5 maybe strong type4 and have yet to know of a safe exfoliant specifically for Dark Skin.

I love the mandelic serum. It never causes me to breakout, nor does it cause my skin to be chapped because I don't use it every day.....I use it about every other morning and never at night. So far, so good.....it has HELPED my hyperpig.....but hasn't totally taken care of it.

I still have my original bottle and I spot treat with it, when I am breaking out. It is great at getting rid of pimples for me, especially when they first begin to surface.
This is one of those products that I use on an as needed basis. I liked using it all over my face last Summer, when my skin was a bit oilier. In the winter, my skin was too dry for the serum.
If you use it blindly, everyday, without understanding how it is affecting your skin... layers of dry skin can build up and trap sebum in pores, causing breakouts. This may be the culprit, more than the marine algae extract.
The trick is to get to know your skin, and don't use it every day.... unless your skin is an oil slick and using it everyday works for your skin type.
Some products work better when you know how to use them. Different products provide different purposes, which is why I am always switching around the products I use in my arsenal.

My skin was an oil slick and MA did keep sebum at bay, however it seemed to increase my acne. I was clear prior to using it, and all I wanted to do was reduce red marks and decreased sebum, but only the latter happened.

Absolutely. :-)
Also, too... sometimes if skin is too oily, drying agents can irritate the oil glands further... I didn't add that in my last post. So this can be another reason why some break out from it in addition to being allergic to the algae, etc.
For redness, I prefer Kinerase to the mandelic acid anyday.

The Mandelic Acid 10% serum never broke me out but I recently upgraded to the 15% serum and for the last two days I've had breakouts (which I haven't had for the past 3 or 4 years). I am thinking this new acne is due to either the 15% mandelic serum or Dr. Pickart's Super CP Serum, which I also recently "upgraded" to, from the regular CP Serum (which never caused me to break out). I agree that the mandelic serum keeps oily skin at bay, at least temporarily (for me, anyway).

I'm Italian American and my skin (right now) is slightly lighter than medium skintone, but I have serious yellow undertones and I tan like crazy in the summer even when I'm not trying to get a tan.

Here goes to beautiful skin,

Wash my face with cleanser. Use 3 pumps of the serum on my face. Feels okay, a little stinging. I know i won't see results right away and from what i hear it works great for latino. Well, i have nothing to loose, right Tracy.

What do i put afterwards?????? :-k . Wait 10 min, spray with NaPCA w/ aloe???? or kinerase lotion???Tracy help

I have dark brown skin. The instructions that came with my bottle of madellic acid said to use it everyday. After about the second day my skin started to peel really badly so I used it every other day. By like the 7th or 8th day my skin was hard and crusty and it had this pimple like rash along my jaw. My skin then developed crazy pimples everywhere and I looked absolutly horrible!

Additionally, my skin developed two tones (the part of my face that was hard and crusty was darker than the rest of my face). Maybe I developed contact dermatitis or a chemical rash, I don't know. Alls I know is I will never use it again!
