GUYS!!! BINGE EATING IS THE CAUSE!!!

I too have been experimenting with my diet intensely (over the last 10 months), trying to strip my diet down to basic raw food and work my way back up to bigger stuff to see what exactly causes my acne.
There's no doubt that binge eating has a negative effect on your acne, and the reason why is probably because of your body's insulin reaction. When you eat food, especially foods that raise your glycemic index (breads, starches, pasta- foods high in sugar, even veggies), your body releases the hormone insulin which apparently contributes to acne. Therefore, when you binge eat, more insulin is released in a shorter period of time, contributing to more acne.
I've been trying to increase my calorie intake, but I've been cautious to spread out my meals throughout the day (it's tough!). Trying to eat a medium-sized meal or small snack every two hours is what I shoot for.

hey mike. i think not binge bingeing will be helpful for your skin, as well as your overall health especially digestion. for a period of time i thought that binge eating was contributing to my breakouts. maybe they were BUT then i realised that my breakouts were actually due to my skin being damaged. things like binge eating, sugar, carbs etc only affected breakouts (most notable inflammation) when my skin was irritated. im now focused on repairing my skin. see the cavemen regimen & water only threads. i think blossom is doing something similar.

Oxidative stress has been one theory behind many diseases, melatonin is the most powerful anti oxident so get your fair share of darkness while you sleep, when the sun i down, your house should be as dark as possible so you produce melatonin.
lesson to learn here is high sugar and fat diets are bad for you, excessive light is also bad for you.

I agree about binge-eating being a trigger of acne, even if its bingeing on good stuff.
1. My "experiment" last summer: I stopped using all acne products like anti-biotics and differin gel. I did a calorie-restriction candida-type diet, no wheat, fermented stuff, caffeine, no dairy, no sugar, etc. I ate slowly, and stopped when I was full. Sometimes I binged on fruits and veggies and sometimes I binge drank.
My inflammed acne stopped (very few new "zits") but the sandpaper type skin-colored acne bumps that are all over my face and really gross remained stubborn. I couldn't get enough calories in me on the candida diet (I'm a vegetarian) and I got grossly skinny.
2. Dan's regimen + back to binge eating: By fall, I started eating whatever the heck I wanted, and binge ate again -usually healthy stuff, sometimes "bad" stuff and often binge drinking. Dan's regimen of benzoyl peroxide made my sandpaper acne go away (yea!) but now I get more inflammed red zits, as if the bacteria has retreated into my skin or something (boo!).
3. Going forward: Dan's system, plus no binge eating even on healthy stuff. and no binge drinking. No crazy candida-type strict restrictions, but listening to my body and treating it well.
I'll keep posted on whether this bears good results in a few months.
Any support or comments are welcome!

The only things I avoid like the plague are starches and dairy products. I can eat small amounts of sugar no problem.

OMG, peanut butter is the beeessst. Instead of a binge meltdown I'll have a little PB....keeps me clear and full. Amazing product for acne.

For example, what about clear-skinned fat people who binge eat all the time? Or bulimics? There are people like that who do not have acne. I also know a load of constipated people who don't have acne either, and they're teenagers.
My self-example is that when I had anorexia about 2 years ago, I would eat incredibly slowly and concentrate on my food so that i'd fill up faster and on less substance. I never binged and always ate really small portions of fruit and vegetables (nothing else really) throughout the day to keep my metabolism up to burn fat. My moderate acne was really bad at this point in time and never got any better. I know that since my diet was lacking healthy fats and protein altogether, that probably contributed to me not being clear. Since then I've learned that fasting doesn't work for me and I don't think it would make a difference if I decided that I wanted to binge (i don't, though); it's the types of food that break me out instead.

I've seen suggestions to avoid eating before going to sleep, but I don't think I've actively ever tried one way or another. Not really sure of the reasoning behind either stance.
