I can only answer question 4
Yes any acid has the potential to damage your skin. It depends on your skin type and acid concentration and what if any prior treatements/medications you are/were on?

On a side note, it would be helpfull if somone answers all the points of the OT since that would be a quick concise way to find out; shifting through old threads is tedious cause not all the points are anwered in one post and one has to read pages and pages and try to remmember all neutral.gif neutral.gif smile.gif

Actually I've looked through many threads and I can't find answers to several of those questions.

1. they help with red marks and smooth out rough skin/shallow scars a bit.
2. www.homepeels.com - about 9-12 months
3. they say every ten days, but basically once a week
4. no downtime, unless you go overtime-can give red patches
5. id say about 4 peels
6. if you use properly and arent on a skin medication ie accutane, no
7. different for everyone, but it will improve the appearance and make pores smaller and tone your skin
8. its gentler yet effective

Hey Miserable, isnt it amazing how when people on this board post a question they are slapped in the face with a 70 page link that doesnt have half the info. People are well slack around here.

6) also wear sunscreen daily during peels, sun can damage you more.

"3. they say every ten days, but basically once a week"

Are there any side effects from using lactic acid more than once a week? like say using 40% 2 or 3 times a week? and is 3-7 minutes the norm or can it be left on a little longer in some cases?

I've been using lactic peels maybe 2 years now. Mostly I've done them every 7 to 10 days. The only time I don't do them is when I've had something invasive done to my face (like needling, TCA CROSS etc..) and there is broken skin.

I use the 55% lactic peels. For the 1st year, I moved up to using them for around 10 minutes. I have since tried leaving the peel on for 25 minutes - It did sting a little and I had some pinkness and lots of extra flakiness, but it did dry up some rough patches. I wouldn't recommend this to someone new to peeling though. More is not always better.

I've heard some use it twice a week.

Personally, I think it's still better to space it 7-10 days apart and use a lighter exfoliater daily (like vinegar, mandelic etc..) in between.

As far as long term damage ... I don't think so, as long as you not over use it, and ALWAYS follow with moisteriser and a good sunscreen. Remember, all exfoliation makes the skin more photo sensitive.

Of course it works or I would've stopped using it!! I am having lots of invasive stuff done to my face ... and the lactic is there to help with new red marks that have been created.
