I'm 32, and have suffered from acne since age 13 (with a few good years in my late 20's). In the last 1-2 years, I've had a resurgence of multiple cysts around my jawline/neck and a ton of stubborn closed comedones.
I've been on retin-a micro (.04%) for about 4 months. Man, that initial breakout was REALLY rough for me! But I got through the worst of it. After about 3 months of only minor on again/off again improvements, I went back to the derm and she prescribed me Duac. I've used the Duac paired with the RAM (see regimen below) for about 3 weeks now. Things have been improving on an almost linear path ever since adding the Duac (with a minor 2-day hiccup last week when I thought my luck had run out, but turned out it was just my PMS breakout).
Every morning I have woken up with better skin. The cysts along my jawline have pretty much dried up & flattened out, and I'm now just waiting out the residual red marks. I still have small pimples pop up here and there, but nothing major. The closed comedones aren't gone yet (I have a LOT) but they are becoming fewer. I'm feeling hopeful about my skin for the first time in many months! I even went out in public yesterday with NO makeup on
I'm VERY meticulous about my regimen. I don't skip days or steps. The side effects from the Duac (as opposed to the RAM) have been minimal. Right now, I'm just feeling very excited and happy when I wake up and rush to the mirror -- and I wanted to share the good news because I know how discouraging this problem can be! Thanks for listening.
