I usually post on here when I'm feeling unhappy & desperate - so I decided to come on and make some happy reports instead. smile.gif

I'm 32, and have suffered from acne since age 13 (with a few good years in my late 20's). In the last 1-2 years, I've had a resurgence of multiple cysts around my jawline/neck and a ton of stubborn closed comedones.

I've been on retin-a micro (.04%) for about 4 months. Man, that initial breakout was REALLY rough for me! But I got through the worst of it. After about 3 months of only minor on again/off again improvements, I went back to the derm and she prescribed me Duac. I've used the Duac paired with the RAM (see regimen below) for about 3 weeks now. Things have been improving on an almost linear path ever since adding the Duac (with a minor 2-day hiccup last week when I thought my luck had run out, but turned out it was just my PMS breakout).

Every morning I have woken up with better skin. The cysts along my jawline have pretty much dried up & flattened out, and I'm now just waiting out the residual red marks. I still have small pimples pop up here and there, but nothing major. The closed comedones aren't gone yet (I have a LOT) but they are becoming fewer. I'm feeling hopeful about my skin for the first time in many months! I even went out in public yesterday with NO makeup on smile.gif

I'm VERY meticulous about my regimen. I don't skip days or steps. The side effects from the Duac (as opposed to the RAM) have been minimal. Right now, I'm just feeling very excited and happy when I wake up and rush to the mirror -- and I wanted to share the good news because I know how discouraging this problem can be! Thanks for listening.

I'm happy for you! I couldn't imagine having acne for that long. woah! I'm only 19, and it feels like I've had it forever!!

I'm the opposite of you. I have been using Duac since last November and about three weeks ago added in Differin. Differin sucks...and I'm definately having an itnitial breakout, but I think it would be MUCH worse without the Duac mixed in there. Those retinoids seem to bring out the worst in my face, but duac calms it down a bit. Thank goodness!

I hope your luck continues, and here's to hoping that both of us are clear in the next few weeks! =)

sounds awesome. i am in week 7 (8?) of RAM and go back to the derm on the 11th. if there is no improvement i will ask him what else to do; i am plagued by cystic acne now for the first time in my life. i am looking into Alpha Hydrox products (well AHA in general) as well but dont know how well it can be tolerated with RAM. here's to clear skin...and eventually throwing out the concealer eusa_dance.gif
