I've been taking Alesse for 5 days (though it's part of a big regimen for me). My derm thought it'd be good for acne but.. did anyone have a good/bad experience on it?

I was on it for about 6 or 7 months. It definitely didn't improve my acne, but I don't think it made it worse.

I have tried many many treatments in my life...accutane twice, every topical (prescription and non prescription, proactiv), natural pills, and bcp's for my acne (OTC, Alesse, Yasmin, Demulen, Diane 35), since I was 18, i am now 30. Alesse was BY FAR the WORSE pill I have ever taken. It made me oilier than I ever was, broke out uncontrollably, my hair curled ?? (the only positive effect it had was that I had lost weight...my body looked amazing but my face was a mess, what good is that when your face looks horrible). i blame Alesse for the scars I have today.
The best pill I have ever tried for my skin is Ortho Tri Cyclen (regular) and if that doesn't clear you up completely, ask your dr. to combine it to spironolactone (I take 50mg a day). It's truly a MIRACLE!!! I could cry of joy...
p.s. I just recently decided to try OTC lo (just because why not...lower dose = healthier) combined with spiro 50mg, I will see how that goes, if I start breaking out, will switch back to regular.

I was 18 and finally clear from hs acne based on age. I'm guessing my oil production was finally shrinking at the time. Then I went on Alesse for contraceptive purposes and my acne slowly returned. I'm now 23 still struggling with it and I've been off of all bc pills for 1.5yrs now, eesh.
Moral: don't be surprised if bc messes with your skin in a negative way (this includes the high & low androgenic options)... I'm pretty sure Alesse is med or high androgenic (as opposed to yaz, yasmin, or ortho-tri which are low-androgenic). High androgenic pills can cause acne! The issue with the low androgenic pills is that the day you come off of them your body then reacts to all of your natural androgens, most people break out horribly.
Maybe the hormones will have a positve effect for you, wish you all the best!

I'm a newb and I've been on the regimen around the same time I started taking Alesse. I started June of this year. The good news is, most of my face is clear except for my chin. I'm trying to stick it out but my chin looks gross and it's really frustrating. Sorry to be so whiny here, I guess I shouldn't really complain but I'm not sure if Alesse is responsible for my acne on my chin with the rest of my face being clear. I'm considering switching to Yasmin...
I used to do the regimen twice a day but that resulted in a very red chin that was irritated and dry so I switched back to once a day.
Thanks in advance.
