I used Proactive for a few weeks. It cleared me up for 1 week then BAM it got worse. I got spread out pimples on my cheek and my chin and LARGE, I wouldn't even call them pimples, bumps on my forehead.

At a rating from 1 to 10, 10 being the worse, im about a 3, 4 before proactive 1, 2. It would have been higher but my pimples aren't bunched up in one spot except for my chin.

So then I quickly completely stopped proactive and started using differin and clearasil. My problem was that I mixed the two which was a BIG mistake. I really dried my skin out because I left it on overnight. I stopped that and got the dryness under control fairly quickly with barely any redness left from the dryness. Right now I have nothing except a product my mom picked up at CVS called Acne free. It looks like the EXACT same thing as proactive and im very hesitant at using it.

I really don't have acne, just some pimples so im trying to find a really killer spot treatment for pimples. I used to use clearasil but it does absolutely nothing except just make it really red. Its old though, close to a year so maybe the medicine just doesn't work anymore, but I want to try something new.

Any suggestions?

I really don't have greasy skin and it really isn't sensitive.

Sound like you had some problems having sensitive skin & using benzoyl peroxide. Try a more gentle product. Hm I use an Aveeno Cleanser, which is ok. Then I apply Witch Hazel (which can be used as a toner, it's on the more natural side of treatments), which is great. You can find Witch Hazel at any store, pretty much. Since you don't have much acne, you don't need strong medications. Good Luck with that, and see what suits you best. Oh and since you want a good spot treatment, you can buy a tube of benzoyl peroxide at any grocery store if need be.

I think Dan has been recommending glycolic acid (AHA) as a spot treatment for pimples. It worked really, really well when I tried it. I used the Alpha Hydrox brand 8% AHA exfoliating cream.

I had a similar problem, I tried the oil cleansing method and it really didn't work for me and broke me out all over, even in places I never break out. So Anyways I started using Mario Badescu enzyme cleanser, and special cucumber lotion as a toner in the morning and witch hazel as a toner at night, and cetaphil moisturizing cream and Mario Badescu's buffering lotion (this is helping A LOT) and I'm clearing up rather nicely sooo maybe you would want to give those products a try, since you asked for a spot treatment then I will HIGHLY recommend the buffering lotion, even though it says it's for cystic acne, it works on all types of acne--it's a gem! www.mariobadescu.com

I've been using Philosophy's blemish serum for adult acne as a spot treatment. It contains 2.0% salicylic acid. Its really been working. I put this on 2 -3 times a day.

I then use their hydrogen peroxide cream all over my face. I get like one pimple here and there now and Ive only been using these products for about a week.

Here's the original thread about the system: http://www.acne.org/messageboard/index.php...=197609&hl=

Hey I use the AcneFree facewash regularly. It's been my wash of choice for a year at least now. It doesn't get foamy or sudsy but it washes off pretty easily and it's kept me clear so I don't plan on abandoning it anytime soon. It used to be in big bottles that were very cheap for their size, but they seem to have halved the size of the bottles but kept the price the same a few months ago sad.gif

For spot treatment I use BP and/or antibiotic like neosporin. Sometimes both. I haven't found SA products useful for treatment, only for prevention. SA does not really affect bacteria or inflammation, I think it is just meant to unclog pores and prevent infections from occurring.

I sometimes use calamine lotion, same stuff used to treat poison ivy and such. I have not tried caladryl, it almost the same stuff but creamier..not sure.. I saw something on line somewhere and this girl was applying it on face (on youtube) It looked exactly like calaminel. She gave the name of the stuff, started with "M" acne drying lotion. I looked up ingredients, pretty much same stuff.
I just put in on spots.

I use BP 10% on my spots. I am dumb though and keep picking after I've already popped and keep picking the scabs. It's a cycle I'm trying to break. It does work well though on killing the bacteria, but it still days 2-5 days to clear up.
