I've been on Yaz for 3.5 months. This is the first birth control I've tried so I can't tell you how it differs from Yasmin. I only know that it has less estrogen and you take it for 24 days with 4 days of placebo versus the traditional 21/7 days. I have had no breakthrough bleeding and no real side effects other than slight dizziness and breast tenderness. It also dramatically reduced my cramps and heavy periods. I now get very light periods that last about 3-5 days. It's amazing for that alone as I have always loathed my difficult periods.

In terms of skin, I did experience a major breakout in the 3rd pack (4-5 big zits) but it went away fairly quickly. I've always had mild/moderate acne that was controlled by benzoyl peroxide but it stopped working this past fall. At first, I continued to get these huge zits on my chin that wouldn't go away for a week or two. It was like one after another on my chin. Then.. I can't remember, but in my 2nd or 3rd month, they started to go away. Now my chin is clear but I have lots of red marks. I haven't been getting any huge zits since I've started my 4th pack. I used to get at least one huge zit on my chin or cheek or forehead once a week. I did notice, however, that Yaz caused all these little pimples on my forehead, almost like a rash. But I would rather have these than the huge painful zits I would get. I've also stopped using benzoyl peroxide in the past week because after using it for 6-7 years, I was sick of the flakiness/dryness and it really wasn't working anymore for the huge hormonal zits. I'm now using just dove sensitive soap and dan's moisturizer and my face feels so much better. My skin still has a long way to go but I'm optimistic that Yaz will continue to improve.
