kaiofthesun-

I have made appointments for smoothbeam, then cancel them after I talk myself out of it. I'm leaning towards a series of 35% TCA peels 6 weeks apart rather than the series of smoothbeams. I am aware the peel is only for very shallow scars, if that. But I like the idea of one right after another working from the outside in. Then again, smoothbeam makes sense by working from the inside out. I guess a combo of the two procedures as you suggest may be beneficial. I might have read you need to have a lapse of time to do smoothbeam if you have had a recent chemical peel?? Maybe I'm mistaken...

what did your doc say about a series of tca 35% peels. i went to this place (www.spa-md.com) and they actually recommended the same thing space a month apart.

did they give you percentage improvement? what kind of scars do you have? what's your skin type (ethnicity?)

thanks. allen

A Jessner peel is not superficial. It is classified as a medium peel and will produce a fairly significant amount of peeling. It contains resorcinol, which is not for the faint of heart.

c-man...

can you tell me a little more about jessners? i've searched online for info...but i can't find any info on jessners as a stand-alone treatment...only combined with TCA.

does it help with shallow scarring after a series of treatments?

I don't know of anyone who's had more than one. Makeup Artists Choice sells a Beta peel that is very similar to a Jessner peel. Kathie, the owner, has posted some good reviews for this peel on her site. But the peel sounds pretty traumatic.

are you sure c-dawg?

im almost 100% sure jessner's is a superficial peel with very little downtime...in fact, its just peeling, mild exfoliation..no scabbing or anything.

Check out the feedback on the Beta peel on www.makeupartistschoice.com

It's very similar to what you'd experience with a Jessner peel.

Jessner contains 14% salicylic acid, 14% lactic acid, and 14% resorcinol, though you also see formulations with 16% instead of 14%. It does cause crusting of the skin and you will have downtime. You can buy it on eBay. The seller warns you about it right in the auction description.

It's not a deep peel but it's not exactly light either.

kai-

Well, I've had Obagi blue peels which helped the overall complexion, tone, etc.- not sure they did much for the scars. I figure a higher percentage may yield better results. She said I could do them 6 weeks apart. I plan to inquire about a package deal- maybe 2 or 3 for a good price. I have read these boards for a few years and don't recall anyone reporting a high percentage TCA peel process- like 2,3,4 peels in 6 week intervals. Perhaps someone has?? My scars aren't deep, but I have a cluster of them mainly on one cheek that I am hoping to improve. The doctor prescribes a pain and anxiety pill prior to the procedure. Anxiety pill? I don't think I'll take it, but I'll welcome a pain reducer- even the blue peels stung a bit.
