unfortunately due to some Jewish holiday i won't be able to see my dermatologist 'til tuesday or wednesday but recently my lips have all of a sudden SWOLLEN UP and this yellow flake FORMS, no longer WHITE.
Anyone else experience this? Is this a cold sore or just an infected lip?
If someone has suffered with this, please recommend me something in the mean time.
What's this on my lip part II

i got some random coldsore like inflammation the other day. I'm about a month into my tane course.
Nothing u can really do, anbesol for pain/itchyness. It'll numb it right up, and aquaphor or vaseline to heal up

Daughter had something similar, doctor thinks it was an allergy and told her to take pirition. Derm thinks, it is cold sores, but it got better on its own after three days. Derm was not sure whether it is a side-effect of the tane and asked her to stop the tane for 1 week and then restarted. sometimes when her lips tingle, she is worried about them getting swollen and sore again. Hope this helps.

Looks like a reaction/infection of some sort.... Go to your physician and ask him what he thinks.

Dont get me wrong by what I am going to say, I am NOT happy that you got what you have on your lip, BUT I DID EXPERIENCE what looks to be what you have as well. I am comforted to see that I might not be the only one who dealt with this. My bottom lip swelled up about 2-3 times its normal size, it was one of the most painful things I ever dealt with, and I noticed that under neath the large swell, just below my lip where the swelling was, was a yellowish scab/rough spot. I also noticed a HUGE hard bump just outside my left under arm. The bump near my arm grew to about a half an inch high, and about 2 inches in diameter, and it was cherry red, and that to was extremely painful. Needless to say, I went to the derm, and he said that I had a boil under my arm, and a cold sore under my lip. The Derm gave me valtrex for my lip, and a 10 day supply of antibiotics to take 3 times a days. A few days later the boil under my arm started to extract white fluid, from taking hot baths twice a day, and hot compresses. My lip did not respond to the valtrex, and didnt want to seem to do anything. Well I eventually realized that I had to do something about my lip since I could hardly get food in my mouth, and I had to drink with a straw, and my lip was very sensitive to heat. Anyways, I finally gently put a warm compress under my lip on the scab, and I was able to get the scab of gently and a little bit of light fluid came out, so I applied a little pressure to my bottom lip using my upper lip, and more white fluid came out, and I noticed that it was the exact same fluid that came out of my boil on my arm. Well, my lip turned out to be a boil as well. By the way, my derm took my off the accutane for 5 days, when I saw him with the boils. Once I found out it was a boil and not a cold sore, I started accutane again after the 3rd day, and he was ok with that. Since then, I have got one more small boil on the left side of my upper lip. and one under my right arm. I didn't even bother to get more antibiotics, or stop the accutane, they were much less painful, and large that the first two.
Some things I did to help get rid of the boils were to cut a clove of fresh garlic in half, and rub it all the boil, it was amazing at how fast it helped excrete the fluids, im talking minutes and sometimes hours it would help. I found this tip out on a google search for boils.
Another tip, my friend told me about was to get glycerin the gel type, and also get epsom salt. He told me to make a salty mix of the two and put it on a bandaid and apply directly over the boil, his brother does it for his boils on his back, and says it works great and a drawing agent.
By the way, this all happened to me in my second month, I just started my third month. I have not had any more boils since. Before accutane, I had never even heard of a boil, I just never had any before.
Once last thing, If you go back a few pages in the list of accutane topics, I have two other topics about what happened to me with boils, asking if anyone else had ever experienced this.
By the way, I did get some light headaches, and I felt sick sometimes, but it was on and off, I would feel fine for a few hours, and not so well a few hours after, pretty annoying. Fever is a symptom of boils, according to my research.

Lily, did it go away after stopping accutane for some time?

Yes, it went away. The swollen and painful lips lasted three days, she took an antihistamine as gp thought it was allergic reaction. Derm thought it was herpes, but when she saw her, her lips it were almost back to normal. I would not have thought that herpes could have been cleared in three days, she said it was not accutane related. She continued with her tane after 1 wk break, she still worries when she feels her lips tingle. Accutane does weaken your immune system. Hope this helps.
