Hey

Taking all 3 oils (the same way and amount you outline) is making me go to the bathroom often. I notice gas and softer stools? Should I worry?

If it's just the evening, it may be the zinc, did you also get enough food etc? I hope so =) Let me know, keep me updated. The oil itself is very friendly do your stomach, as I've read and experienced personally, but it may be that since it's all new to you in terms of quantity your body is kind of not prepared for it since you've been so deprived for so long. In a way then, that may be a good sign! It's finally getting everything it needs

Yeah, I just felt it last night before I went to bed. I had taken the zinc about 45 minutes after dinner. And I took the zinc with just a little bit of bread, just enough to soak up the evoo. I would have taken them with the meal, but I ate at my mother's and waited to take the pills when I got to my own house. Tonight though, I didn't take the evoo and supplements until around 10 at night, cause I didn't get out of work until then. I ate it with an english muffin and some goldfishes so I hope it was enough..or if I feel nauseous at least it might be in my sleep and won't feel it. Thanks for the reply!

edit: and yes it's just in the evening...so I'm assuming it has nothing to do with the fish oil.

I don't think it's any case to worry smile.gif My stool is softer too and easier to go to the restroom. By soft do you mean like diarrhea? Or do you just mean softer than usual?

Ah there you go, zinc really does need a good amount of food and needs to be taken right after, no 45 minute wait either. Otherwise it won't be pleasant hehe.

Whole foods ran out of cherry flavored cod liver oil.

So I picked up the regular kind.

It tastes absolutely horrendous. The taste of cod liver oil makes me want to hurl, wow, this is stronger than I even imagined. Time to improvise.

And I thought the cherry cod liver oil was bad enough! Haha

Anyway, so after I eat my meal I can go straight to taking the 2 tablespoons of EVOO, 1 teaspoon each of the oils, then the vitamins. All at one time right? No waiting? (Splitting up the regimen like you did)

Also I've been noticing I've had alot more gas, hope that is normal.

I've been doing the regimen for a few days now, no marked improvement, but no break outs either.

A couple questions though:

Why is it so important to measure the oils exactly? Why can't I use one of those spoons that approximately measure to be 1 tsp?

And where do you store your cod liver oil, in the fridge? On the bottle it just says "store in a cool, dark place."

thnx.

You'll want to give this all up if you taste unflavored. Let's just say you really do realize where it comes from once you take a sip.

There was a tom and jerry episode where they made tom take cod liver oil from the other cats and he turns purple from the disgust lol.

For EVOO can't you take it with your meal? It would be easier for you =D Like inside it? Or is whatever your eating not palatable with evoo?

Yes, so you can take it all together. Meaning in the evening take the cod liver oil and vits, or in the morning take fish oils and the vits smile.gif No waiting needed, all right after.

No worries, it will take a while smile.gif Just keep at it. Vitamins take a while to kick in, I mean a while, but it will be fast since you are doing this all together.

With the measuring, use one of these
http://fantes.com/images/15634-1measuring_spoons.jpg

Or

These that come with cold medicine cups
http://www.medofficedirect.com/images/Prod...Cups%20High.jpg

But not the spoons that you eat with
http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview...90967_spoon.jpg

You may find it odd... why should we use a proper measuring tool when we have a tablespoon in our drawer that I eat with daily!

I thought that too. For an entire month, I would use that spoon to measure one tablespoon of olive oil. I realized my olive oil bottle was lasting a really long time. I thought, I was getting 5 servings a day, why is it lasting so long? Then it hit me, those eating spoons aren't accurate. So I measured it. The tablespoon I ate with measured HALF of what a real tablespoon (15 ml) should be.

I was like damn. Wasted so much time.

That is why I recommend that, since every spoon is so different. And no tablespoon that you eat with will amount to a real 15 ml official tablespoon measurement.

Don't ask me why they do that lol, they just do. I learned that in my culinary class as well.

Nothing I eat would go well with EVOO. I tried the dip with Balsamic Vinegar, but I didn't like the taste. I'm getting used to just taking two tablespoons of EVOO directly into my mouth day and night.

A teaspoon of the fish and cod oils seem a bit small, I guess you don't want to overdose on it.

As long as whatever you do, remember to attain 100% of your vitamin A with cod liver oil. Be sure to read the back etc to find out how much 100% is. But I definitely recommend twin lab or GNC brand.

Yes, the Vitamin A I'm getting is all coming from the Cod Liver Oil capsule. It's only one I need to take, so I don't think the capsule will be that bad! I'll sort out another brand when I'm getting to the end of this bottle.

Zinc does this, without food zinc will cause nautiousness, it's a pretty serious mineral smile.gif. Be sure to eat it with food of course. If you are getting enough food it should not occur. How long has this been happening? The chromium will not produce any stomach issues =)

I have been taking the Zinc about an hour after I eat. By the time I do washing up and everything else, it's about an hour before I take them. I'll reduce this time from now on. I've noticed this for as long as I've been taking the supps.

Yes, calcium was pretty much for the lack of dairy. Without dairy calcium is a huge issue, unless you can get it elsewhere. =) I know it has something to do with the skin, I'll have to look it up and I will post it later, but it's mostly just for your joints and what not. I know it has other effects. Basically there's no hurry to get it as it's not super important to the issue of the skin.

OK, well I am eating dairy, so I don't mind so much about missing out the calcium. I didn't think it had too much to do with your skin, as I know it's mainly involved in your teeth and bones, but is really important to avoid osteoporosis, expecially as a woman.

Thanks!

No not at all, it's not small smile.gif just remember to keep using those measuring utensils, it's a night/day difference than using simply household spoons.

5 ml = 1600 mg of omega 3 in the fish oil. Pretty powerful teaspoon! hehe

Go to the groceries =) There's a lot more to chose from at a cheaper price. Mine costs about 5 bucks for about 35 servings. Usually the average is 6 to 7 for all of them. Omit the expensive ones. Just makes sure it's in a glass bottle. And pick from the back of the shelf lol

Yeah fish oil is pretty vital. What you can do is buy flax seeds (you should have an organic section in a big grocery store that sells them) or maybe whole foods has them, or central market if you have them there. Come home and throw them in a grinder so it's thick powder. Take a few tablespoons a day and see how that fairs. I am not 100% sure about them though, because I know flax seeds may have their own issues at times, but you do need omega 3's. And since you're also missing out on cod liver oil's retinol, you need a vitamin A source. You can get vitamin A vitamins, those are fine.

But just for simplicity's sake, is that one acceptable? Because I figure if I'm already going to Walgreens (which is literally across the street from my work right now) to get all of the vitamins, then I might as well just buy the evoo while I'm there! So if there's nothing "wrong" with that one, then I plan on going to get it when I leave here today.

Has anyone thought about taking any sort of probiotic supplement with these? I was leafing through the vitamin world magazine that came with my fish/cod liver oil and it seems like they have some pretty decent probiotic supplements. I know probiotics are important because I suffer with candida. I am currently taking fivelac but that stuff is so expensive that I'm about to opt for a cheaper probiotic. Anyone experiment or have any good results with any probiotic supplements?

Questions

*I've read through the thread, but I might have repeated a question by mistake. If so just direct me to where the answer is I guess.

*fish oil; recommended dosage is between 1-1.8g per day. The Carlson fish oil provides you with 1.3g EPA+DHA per day. The cod liver oil is providing you with .923g of EPA+DHA per day. So together you are getting a total of 2.223g of EPA+DHA just from the fish oil. Considering that you are getting some omega-3 from the foods you are eating this dosage seems high.

*you also say you take the Twin Labs non-emulsified cod liver oil - you emphasized that it should be non-emulsified a couple of times. Emulsified oil is known to be better due to having a higher bioavalability. Are you taking the oil for the retinol (vitamin A) or for the EPA+DHA? Because if you are taking it for the EPA+DHA I don't see why you wouldn't take a emulsified version due to higher bioavalability. If you are taking it for the retinol I don't see why you wouldn't just take some other source since you are already getting plenty of omega-3 from the other fish oil

*from some of your sources and other places I have found the following statement "Vitamin E deficiency is rare in humans." Therefore is this supplement really necessary?

*from the office of dietary supplements page that you posted I have found the following, "Most studies of the safety of vitamin E supplementation have lasted for several months or less, so there is little evidence for the long-term safety of vitamin E supplementation." Have you found places that say what may happen if too much vitamin E is taken? It's fat soluable so I feel that taking too much is a bad thing.

The best thing in my opinion is getting the right nutrients/substances the body needs but at the same time minimizing the amount of supplements one gets. From your post, other posts I have read, as well as other stuff I was curious of two things. 1) Is there one big general idea that explains why you choose the specific supplements you choose? I understand the fish oils the best, but for instance why not include magnesium into your diet as well as it appears to be highly beneficial as well Did you track your diet and merely saw that this is what you specifically were lacking in? My question may seem kind of confusing but I just want a simple general idea (example fish oil helps with the EPA+DHA, zinc with ..., not magnesium because...etc.) I hope this makes some sort of sense.

I am also curious as to the method you employed with your regimen. Did you start on some of the supplements and as time passed by you added let's say vitamin E and you saw a change in your acne or what? Have you tested it and seen that if you take out again let's just use vitamin E for the sake of example your acne begins to reappear a little again?

Also if you were to cut our any of the supplements that would cause the smallest change which of those supplements would it be?

thanks a lot
