try spearmint tea instead - its meant to help with oil and is linked to helping with Polycystic Ovary syndrome so might help with hormones etc

I'll get back with you. Might be that EGCG (found in green tea) is an aromatase inhibitor. This might be okay for guys but bad for girls.

Get back with you tomorrow. Gotta go now.,

No green tea is high in antioxidents. Its impossible for it to be the tea. It has to be something else.

Preliminary research on the net indicates that although green tea is a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor (lets just say androgen inhibitor), black tea components are much stronger inhibitors. So, black tea would be better for reducing oily skin and helping with male pattern baldness. Still have to research the aromatase part of it (thats the part that converts to estrogen). Mint tea has definitely been identified as anti-androgen and contains no caffeine (compared to black tea for example). Not sure if mint tea or black tea is stronger inhibitor. But this study shows black tea stronger than green tea.

So take your choice of black tea or mint tea and try it for a week and see how it goes.

Actually I personally have noticed what I feel is a link between green tea and breakouts. I know it sounds crazy, and I'm not saying it will do it to other people. But I noticed it several months back; it seemed like my skin was fine, everything was good, I would decide to have a nice cup of sencha because of all the great antioxidants and whatnot, and then like overnight (or sooner) the zit monster would pay me a visit.

So to answer your question, yes, I have noticed this side effect. I got to thinking that it might just be the caffeine? Since I really don't ever expose myself to caffeine in any other form, I thought maybe that was what happened? I could be way off, likely I am. But all the same, I do feel there is a link, at least for some people; though I am at a loss to explain it.

Man, my answers get quite long winded. I have this nasty habit of talking all the way around a subject. Or writing rather... I really don't talk much. Ugh, such rambling.

Try mint or black tea (see my post above) and track results.

Green tea increases testosterone, black tea has stressful caffeine... It's safer to just drink water.

Type the words "Green Tea" and "Acne" into google and every single page and article you see will be on how benefitial it is for acne. I don't see how in any way it could be bad.

Green Tea - Herbal DHT Blocker
Green Tea is an extremely powerful anti-oxidant. It also reduces dht and cholesterol. It is believed that drinking the tea or taking a pill extract can stop hair loss and facilitate re-growth. Green tea contains flavonols and catechins, substances that have been found to have significant antioxidant, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome
Green tea’s ability to increase the production of sex-hormone-binding globulin and its thermogenic effect also provides a rationale for its use in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). By increasing sex hormone-binding globulin, some free testosterone can be bound up, thereby reducing some of the testosterone-related problems seen in women with PCOS such as hair thinning, acne and facial hair. Obesity is another consideration in approximately 50% of PCOS women. Green tea may be helpful in not only increasing SHBG, but also in the thermogenic effects and weight loss potential.

Altho your right also seen a study sayin green tea had the opposite effects on some rats and increased their testosterone....and heres me shelling out four friggen € a box! eusa_doh.gif haha

Oooh! I know something cool...
Apparently spearmint tea slows down hair growth!
Less hairiness and it tastes like gum! biggrin.gif
I suppose that has to do with lowering testosterone though...

I've been drinking green tea for about 3 years. I think this is really interesting as despite all the rave reviews it gets for helping acne, I've continued to break out.

I'm male - but the DHT connection is interesting. I think I'm gonna try drinking just spearmint/ mint tea for a few weeks and see what happens...

QUOTE
A concern that is commonly brought up about green tea is the idea that it decreases levels of androgens such as testosterone and DHT. One study reported that after administered to rats, EGCG "significantly reduced food intake; body weight; blood levels of testosterone, estradiol, leptin, insulin, insulin-like growth factor I, LH, glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride" [22]. However, a different study with green tea catechins in rats found decreased body weight but increased thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), LH, and testosterone levels [85]. A final study in mice with green tea indicated drastic increases in both testosterone and DHT from green tea treatment, but levels of both were synergistically inhibited when it was adminstered along with soy phytochemicals [86]. In vitro, EGCG inhibits type I 5AR [2, 87], which is partially responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (for this reason, it has been proposed in the topical treatment of acne and hair loss [2]), while in rats, green tea is an aromatase inhibitor, which (in theory) would be responsible for an increase in tesotsterone levels [85].

Also don't forget that the absolute majority of sites online that talk about green tea are also selling it.
