Does anybody know what procedure can go deeper? Dermabrasion or CO2?

I'm not sure which goes deeper. I think they can both go as deep as the operator wants.

I know with dermabrasion if they go too deep, that is what produces scarring.

CO2 burns the skin. I know it can produce more scars but don't know if it's due to the improper healing of the burn, or if they do too many passes.

What scares me about CO2, is that it can produce a waxy appearance, which I *think* is scar tissue resulting from a burn. Burn scar tissue is probably even harder to get rid of than other forms of scarring IMHO.

That said, some people experience great results from CO2 laser, so it really depends on your skin, the practicioner, and your skin.

Alex12,

I had Co2 laser in 1997 and it didn't do much. It did help my tone though. Which goes deeper? CO2 laser = 100-150 microns per pass (several passes over particular areas will go deeper). Mechanical dermabrasion --- up to 350 microns.

Emma...

The patch test in the photos above are from a Deep Microdermabrasion with the DiamondTome, which is the closest to a Dermabrasion. It cannot be done by an aesthetician, only a physician.

Oh, okay thanks for clearing that up smile.gif

Dermabrasion thins the skin too kiki--I don't know if that affects your decision about it, but I thought you should know.

That is not good, i already have a very thin skin.
Is it right that a chemical peeling (TCA) thickens the skin over a long period of time?

Yep, you all are right...I'm confused.

This site says it works best on thin skin:
http://www.drkuisle.com/C02.html

"C0 2 Laser, Dermabrasion, Chemical Peels - Procedure: Restore wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged facial skin, using a chemical solution, CO2 laser, or sanding wheel to peel away skin’s top layers. Works best on fair, thin skin with superficial wrinkles."

Hmm.

Well,

I just scheduled a dermabrasion with Dr. Yarborough. The office said to send (via postal mail) an "Introduction Letter" about yourself with photos.

Guess what I just did? I just scheduled a dermabrasion with Dr. Yarborough. I just decided after reading so much about him that it was best to go with a physician who had a well known reputation for this particular procedure.

Someone tell me I'm not crazy for spending this kind of money ($4500 + hotel) to do this. Or am I?

I don't think you're crazy. I think it's empowering for you to be taking action. It's worth the money if it gives you happinness.

That's completely normal. I'd be more concerned about you if you weren't scared.

Remember, it's never too late to cancel or postpone if you get a bad feeling about it.

Good Luck!!

Kiki,

That's fantastic! I know how scary it must be, but I think you are making a good decision. You've done your research, you've heard testimonials, and you've obviously given this a lot of thought. If it weren't for the money (and my lack thereof), I know I would be on a plane right now down to Louisiana. I think you should feel great about this. Nothing ever changes in life unless you will it to, and you are finally taking an active role in addressing. Good for you. Please keep us updated. Oh, and I will still update you when I speak to that woman who was treated by him. Are there any specific questions you'd like me to ask her?

Cheers,

--leo

I have been thinking of doing dermbarsion by Dr. Y over the summer and more positive testimony only make me feel more at peace. Thank you and best wishes.

Kiki I just want to say that I thought I knew it all about dermabrasion at this point. Your posts have been hard to find, but just what ive been looking for. They are detailed and supremely informative. I really appreciate your effort in digging up this information for us. I am really considering doing something still. My scarring has gotten worse. I was told by a physician I consulted with recently that I was by far one of the worst cases he has ever seen. If you ever look at the human brain that is how uneven my face looks. I am beyond depressed and sometimes can't get out of bed. I'm sick of this life!
