Stop taking mino, tetracycline, all those shi'ite antibiotics. They don't distinguish between good and bad bacteria, they kill it all. You get hella sunburn while on them and guess what, the minute you come off them your acne is back either full force or worse than before because of the way they work. And to top it off, now they have killed important intestinal flora in your digestive tract. Gratz! Honestly, I'm speaking from experience. Instead of taking anti-biotics, take PRO-biotics.

That's my $0.02, folks.

Here's the crazy thing about minocylcine, though...

it works. It'll clear up your skin. And coming off of it doesn't guarantee you will break out. I was on it for a few months and then came off of it for over a year and never had a problem. Then college came, but that's another story...

I'd rather take probiotics with my antibiotics and risk loosing some "good" digestive bacteria than be depressed and broken out.

Two more cents added to the collection:)

They may suck and be overused, but I'm at the point where the only other possibility is Accutane ... and my mother, naive woman that she is, said "yes" when the derm asked, "Is there any history of depression?" Which leaves antibiotics.

Probiotics such as acidophilus are bacteria which are good for you.

Have you cleared your skin naturally? What did you do? Because I'm just stumped myself. For many weeks I've lived on fruit, fish, nuts, rice, and pretty much nothing else. And my acne's been stuck at a level which isn't so bad that I have to sequester myself in the house, but which still depresses me when I look in a mirror.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm totally clear but I found B5, less topicals, Green Smoothies and a heathy diet of fish, lean meat, vegies and fruit has cleared me from inflammed acne. I believe it's the Green Smoothies and reduction of dairy and refined sugars that have cleared me of inflammed acne.

Yikes. I love milk, I love icecream, I love coffee. All the things that are bad for acne I love! help! lol I have only one cup of coffee a day. As opposed to before. I use to drink like 3 or 4! I'm drinking more water, as opposed to before when I didn't even drink a glass of water in three days! I love fruits so that's a plus. How can I get a hold of those B vitamins people talk about all the time?

Whatever damage antibiotics does to you, I'd gladly take it over the smallest (permanent) acne scar. Same goes with BP.

Im currently cutting out tetracycline, and im actually seeing a tiny breakout. But its non-inflamed.

What probiotic should I start taking, and where do I get it? I hope I can get rid of this crap.

Udo's choice Probiotics?

Does anyone know these?

I beg to differ.

I was on minocycline for nearly two years. My face cleared, then broke out and I went from mild acne to severe acne. It also really damaged my digestion, which I have been working at for years to recover.

Is minocycline more harsh than tetracycline?
Now im getting pretty worried that my digestion system is screwed up aswell.
Are you taking probiotics to make it better, or what?

Would these Probiotics work you think?

Lactobacillus rhamnosus 25 %
Lactobacillus acidophilus 20 %
Lactobacillus plantarum 10 %
Streptococcus thermophilus 7 %
Bifidobacterium bifidum 5 %

Seems like a lot of people have gone through the same thing, and the medical journals don´t hinder doctors to make the same mistake over and over again. My aunt just lasered her horrible deep scars. She was given just about all the antibiotics on the market, the only result was antibiotic resistant bacteria in her face. Now her body doesn´t respond to any antibiotics. I didn´t get too many scars nor acne (it was bad but not severe) but my body started to work against me and all the doctors did - give me more antibiotics.

AGREED. After years of acne pills I now realise how futile they all were in comparison to becoming holitically clear.

Minocyclin is generally not as difficult on the body as other tetracyclines.

That probiotic looks good. Lactobacillus is frequently prescribed where I work as a probiotic of choice to combat Clostridium Difficile and other gastric disturbances from antibiotics.

I would myself prefer that acne sufferers NOT take antibiotics; anti-inflammatory effects are likely more important in acne than anti-bacterial effects.
