Hi, I'm new the board (but definitely not new to acne). I've been on all types of medication and am currently on tazaroc, evolcin, and bactrim pills. They have all been working really well.

However, I'm a tanning junkie (I know, I know tanning is bad for the skin but I can't help it) and I was wondering if anyone has tanned while on any of these meds? In the past I'd usually just go off my medicine to tan during the summer, since tanning kind of "covers up" acne. But this year I want to continue my meds.

Does anyone have any feed back about any possible complications or side effects while tanning on these meds? I know they advise to avoid tanning but I was just wondering if anyone had any experience from it.

Thank you! biggrin.gif

In my 2nd and 3rd years of high school, I was on Tazorac.

I didn't go to a tanning booth, but I was on the tennis team (and it was in Texas). We had team practice every day after school for 2 hours, so you can pretty much imagine how much sun I would get (I tanned so much that my sock tan was so bad it'd look like I was wearing white socks).

Anyhow, Tazorac + UV = BAD.

My skin got so damaged that I would peel like crazy (in the shower, I would rub my face and sometimes a roll of skin would peel off), not to mention the worst effect ~ you'll get really bad redness and flushing (it'll basically look like you're horribly sunburnt and it won't go away until a lot of time passes).

I know I might sound like I'm trying to scare you, but really, if it's one thing I really can advise is that don't let yourself get UV damage while you're on a retinoid (because your skin is only half as thick as someone who's not on one).

I know tanning is addicting, but please think about the consequences!

Good luck!
