24 now, acne forever, cystic, accutane twice blah blah you know the drill;

I promised myself when I found a way to beat this disease, or if not beat it, at least make it manageable, I would spread the word, so I'll keep this short and sweet:

Regimen:

My diet is mostly meat, fish, whole foods, and brown rice seems to be okay. Brown basmati is pretty good stuff btw. I try to avoid the common allergenic foods.

Take some taurine capsules with each meal; if I am eating a meal of bad acne foods (grains, certain spices, lots of salt, processed food, fructose, alcohol, etc) I will take 1 or 1.5 grams, if not, I take .5g - 1g.

I drink three or four 8.3 oz. red bulls a day. It is really messin with my sleep patterns and such, so I am going to ween down to 1 in the morning or maybe none at all.

I take 1 B vitamin complex, whatever I found at the drug store.

I would like to experiment with Betaine HCL or Cayenne, but have not done so yet.

That's all. Usually just rinse face with water. I like to supplement with Dans BP at night sometimes, and I will definitely be supplementing with his Salycilic acid when it comes out.

Thanks to LiliVG for starting the taurine post and doing a lot of research, and thanks to everyone else in that thread. Feel free to add me to any clear clubs or whatever.

Awesome! smile.gif There really needs to be a Taurine club by now, lol

Thanks for the detailed description of your regimen, that's really helpful for people. smile.gif How long did it take you to get clear with this routine?

The inflammation decreased pretty much immediately. It's probably been about 6 weeks now. I would also like to add that I would definitely have better results if I stuck to my regimen better.

I felt the same way. First 2-3 weeks were great then came the holidays and I started slipping due to "peer pressure" from the family to EAT UP! haha.

Im back on the ball now trying to find out what's working best for me.

My progress is in my sig btw, If you want to check it out.

wow, nice you look like your doing great! i have been changing my diet, i went vegan for a year, after reading dr. fuhrmans book eat to live ...i was eating fruit, veggies , beans, those green smoothie drinks and my face was so bad, i went from mild acne to cystic. so this fructose thing i have been really excited about, with the taurine and all. I have also watched my moms acne clear after her whole life with zits. she never cared much about her skin though, it just never upset her. i cry when i get so down sometimes i feel so ugly. when i pick and am all scabby. sad.gif. I have been trying not to do that though. anyhow i noticed my mom has been taking carb phaser pills with each of her meals to loose weight and she takes milk thistle alot because she drinks really heavy on weekends. her face is flawless. shes like yeah i cleared up, but theres more important things like my weight!!! she doesnt care about her skin at all. doesnt even care shes clear, to her looks are about weight. i wonder if her carb phasers have taurine. anyhow im gonna start eating more meat, i just hate it though. thats why my skin is so bad, when i eat low carb it helps right away. I am gonna try her carb phaser pills and some milk thistle and see if that works. sorry about the rambling nice pics!

When you find out what's in them, can you tell us? I'm curious.

I would imagine it's different for every brand but they usually contain something like kidney bean extract and things like chromium and vanadium. They are more usually called carb blockers and have been around in the body building world for a long time

List of popular carb blockers

But i'm not overly keen on them, there are better ways of dealing with evil carbs. Eating junk and just taking enough blockers is a way to bad long term health i think! (but they may stop some of the sugar problems you get with processed food).

Phase 2 Carb Blockers

Wow, that's really interesting about the carb blockers! I can't believe someone could have acne all their life and not care! And then not care when it cleared accidentally! lol!
I really think the reason vegan/vegetarian diets seem to e so bad for acne is exactly that, a really high carb diet. I tried being vegan for a while, and like several other people on this forum have noticed for themselves as well, my skin was at it's worst during that period.

On the list of popular carb blockers, there's one called "Cheater's Relief", I think that's so funny! Rather appropriate. I might be a good thing to have around, for those occasions when eating perfectly isn't an option. I know nearly everyone has been in that situation, and it can be depressing and frustrating when it happens. I might get one for those cases. It seems to have helped at least one person with their acne anyway. And she wasn't even trying! lol.
