I am new so I don't know if this is the right area to post this so forgive me if its not.

I really don't have acne, i just get pimples here and there every once and while, and yesterday I woke up with a blind pimple over my lip that was so big it looked like someone punched me in my lip and it swelled up. So right away I put clearisel on it and left it there and after a few hours i wiped it clean and put more and so on. Today i woke up and it looks more like a pimple now. It rose to the surface, but what happened that never happened to me before was it seems as though it popped itself, I never pop pimples because they get worse put when i woke up it was popped (puss and a little blood on the tip). I am basically asking for a sort of over the night treatment or something. 1 of my friends told me to put tooth paste on it and then the other one said don't it makes it worse. Then I was told to put ice on it to make the swelling go down, then I was told no it will make it more red. The only thing i am using is clearisel and a little medicine my doctor gave me awhile back when i used to get large pimples on my forehead, its called differin, its a prescription.

Any suggestions? biggrin.gif

well there really are so many things you could do... someone might put a tea bag on it ( one that has been dipped in warm water,
or just a rag that was in warm water...
and put some B.P. on it...

Half fill a glass with some warm water (not hot, warm) put a teaspoon of honey, some lemon juice (if you can) and a teaspoon of salt in the water, stir and place a cotton wool ball or bud in the mix, hold the ball on the affected area for about 3 minutes then splash some water over the pimple and pat dry with a tissue.

I find this treatment great for dealing with pimples that burst/hurt. It wont disappear straight away but it feels better and seems to lose some redness and disappear faster.

Hope this helps you.

Try moisturizing with aquaphor and the person who told you toothpaste makes it worse is right. A lot of toothpastes contain Sodium Lauryth Sulfate which rates as a 5 on zero.com as an ingredient that can lead to break outs or make a breakout worse.

Warm treatments to bring it to a head quicker.

Ice to calm them down and shrink swelling.

Good luck!

As Dee suggests, and also take a look at the bottom link of my signature for a full description of 'icing' a pimple. Good luck!

Ive never found icing to work. Ive tried it several times. I definitely recommend hot compresses instead. I wrap a hot tea bag around a paper towel and use that for a couple minutes on and a couple minutes off. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesnt. Usually it does though

Heat will increase inflammation. Ice will decrease inflammation. That's just a fact.

It doesnt for me. It brings it to a juicy yellow head and then its easy to pop. I dont even have to force it. It just comes out

You're both right, heat will only support the developing pimple by allowing the bacteria to flourish which ends it's life cycle faster. Theoretically, ice (when used correctly) will kill the bacteria preventing the growth of the pimple in the first place and hence decreasing inflammation.
Different treatments work for different people so my advice is to do what works best for you.
