How long should i stick with bactrim to see the full results that it is going to give me?
Is 12 days too soon to know if it is working or not?
How long until antibiotics kick in usually?

The thing you have to realize with antibiotics is that you have to patient. It is not killing the bacteria, it just keeps them from reproducing. What does this mean? Ultimately it means that the result times are going to vary from person to person since your immune system is doing the actual killing of the bacteria. 4-6 weeks would probably be the norm for this specific antibiotic but it could easily take up to 12 weeks to see results. Just be patient. I didn't see results from my antibiotic until late 6 weeks early 7 weeks into taking the pill three times a day. Another important thing is to take the pill or pills at even consistent time intervals.

yeah. theres no way you will see an effect after 12 days. bactrim is supposed to be pretty effective, so hang in there! you might start seeing effects after 4 weeks. 8 weeks is generally the time after which you will know for definate if its helping you. I guess in general it takes between 2-4 months to get clear. I hope it works out for you!!

That's somewhat misinformation. The type of antibiotic you are taking is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. That means it does not kill all of the bacteria, but rather decreases the population to a manageable level. I don't think that your body is killing the bacteria, per say. But someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, it takes 6-8 weeks for an antibiotic to kick in. Some lucky people will see something at 4 weeks, but that's very rare. So try to be patient.

I would give your bactrim atleast a month to get in your system and 2 months to start seeing results. I've been on minocycline for about 2 months and slowly starting to see results so be patient. it will be worth it when your skin starts clearing up. what kind of regimen are you using daily?

have you tried any other antibiotics? usually in most cases you need to try several antibiotics before accutane.

You misunderstood me, maybe you should have read my entire post. That's what I said, the antibiotic binds to a specific protein that keeps it from reproducing, thus a decrease in the bacteria population. Your immune system can then use the white blood cells to kill the acutal bacteria itself. Bacteriostatic antibiotics inhibit growth and reproduction of bacteria without killing them; killing is done by bactericidal agents. Bacteriostatic agents must work with the immune system to remove the microorganisms from the body. However, there is not always a precise distinction between them and bactericides; high concentrations of most bacteriostatic agents are also bactericidal, whereas low concentrations of bacteriocidal agents are only bacteriostatic.

I only take bactrim twice a day. I cleanse my face with st. ives gentle scrub and mosturize with st. ives aloe lotion morning and night. I also use differin gel... every other day at night. I use duac for spot treatment.... and thats it.
