I just switched from benzaclin to tretinoin (.025%) a few days ago. I'm using tretinoin every other day just since Friday my skin has gone from looking "okay" to a broken out oil slick.

I know when I was 13 I used retin-a every other day and something else on the off days (I can't remember what). I'm thinking of using my remaining benzaclin on the days I don't use retin-a. Anyone ever do this, or use tretinoin in combo with another topical?

Most dermatologists I've talked to usually recommend using just tretinoin, because tretinoin (as well as tazarotene) can become rendered unstable when used along with benzoyl peroxide.

The only retinoid that has been declared stable for concurrent use with benzoyl peroxide is Differin ~ a lot of dermatologists assign Differin @ night and benzoyl peroxide @ morning routines.

Thanks for the response!

I have read that using other topical meds with tretinoin can actually negate the effects of the tretinoin, but then I keep reading about people who use retin-a at night and another topical in the am, for example.

Can anyone clarify what can be used in combo with tretinoin and how? I want use tretinoin .025% every other day. I'd like to use benzaclin on the off-days, but I don't want to cause the tretinoin to not work. I've read that people do this though, and they don't seem to have a problem.

Also, does using moisturizer immediately after applying tretinoin cause any problems? Should I wait, or only moisturize in the morning?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
